I have the dual fan (on the motor) setup on my X-Ray - that is why I was asking about motor temps - it sounds like motor temp isn't really an issue with the brushless motors.

That is what I heard in a reply a few posts back (too lazy to look it up right now - LOL)

Yes, the motor temp is safe in the 160-170 degree range. The ESC barely got warm. I have a 40mm 5vdc fan blowing on the motor as well.

Ran my GTB 6.5 in a B4 buggy for the first time on the weekend. Unfortunately I forgot the instructions so could only play with gearing. Not sure where they got the suggested 18/81 combo for a B4 from, at this gearing it was only just faster than a good stock. By the end of the day I was up to 24/81 and I think I could still go further but need to do some suspension tuning first At this gearing it took 1800mah to repeak the battery after a 5 minute run.

Motor temp only got to about 35 deg C and Speedie was about 50 deg C without the fan so still plenty of temp to play with especially if I can find a way to fit the fan into the car.

The only problem I had was that it has so much acceleration that even with the slipper fairly loose it is going through tyres in two runs The size was also a little disappointing the footprint is given as 29.5 x 37.8 mm but the 29.5 doesn't include the plates for the wires which extends this dimension to 40mm. I know they can argue that the footprint is only the bit actually on the chassis but as the wires are only a few mm above that it isn't a true measure of the amount of real estate you will need for mounting. A small gripe though given the performance

Talking GTB = Performance!

I saw a GTB w/ 5.5 velocity running at my local track this weekend. It was in a TC4 Factory Team car. It was as fast as the 8x1s and the Hackers that were out there.
Smoking little motor system.
I love the "Black Art" of motor tuning because it gives me an advantage but this system looks like the Cat's Meow.
I think I'm going to order one today.
More practice time! YEHHHHHH!!!!!

I'm suprised that the manual calls for motor as an indicator. In brushless that should be almost meaningless (by my logic...). I have lots of experience with the 5800 system and that was all about managing the speed control temp. I could run it till it thermalled (no venting in a buggy body) and the motor would barely be warm.
Wierd...

Default How about 1/12th scale

I'm thinking of getting one for 1/12th scale racing. Has any tried it or have pictures of is installed in a 1/12th scale? Also would I need to use reciever batteries?

Slow,
I run 4 Cells with my 6.5V and have had no problems with it when the voltage gets low, just one note, I have not raced with the unit yet on the track, wont be able to do that for another 6 weeks. Driving the car around in the parking lot seems to do fine with 4 cells. Also I run this set up in a Touring car Xray T1R

got my 5.5 and ran it in my touring car this weekend on an outdoor track w/ 140' straight. after finally getting the gearing right, i was pulling every other mod car on the back straight by about 15'. it also has massive punch even when geared for a big straight. truly a smokin system. most of the guys were runnin 10 turns, and they had nothin on me. even though my batts only take 3000 mah and are somewhat tired, i could still make run-time if i did'nt hammer it constantly. we were runnin foam tires on our cars. the motor was temping around 165 deg after the run.

BTW, i have the sphere/neo also, and i like the 5.5 better for touring because of the fan. the lrp is a much better fit in the 1/12 however. but i'll probably get another and machine down the heat sink and remove the fan to shoe-horn the novak into the 1/12. the novak feels like it has much more punch then the neo/sphere which is to be expected.

Great job, novak.,,,,, now i'm just waitin till the 3.5 turn motor comes out.
anyone wanting an lrp/sphere, let me know....
