Maybe a stupid question, how do you tell what mode the esc is in....brushless or brushed?????

Talking

The GTB has 6 profiles. #1 to #5 are for the brushless motor. #6 is for the brushed motor. You will know what profile you are on by the number of times it flashes. 1to4 are programable in the brushless mode and so is 6 in the brushed mode.

Here's the link to show you...hope it works.

The 5800 felt pretty insanely powerful compared to the 19T I'm used to. It was flawless for 10 packs with very little time between packs. The motor was barely warm to the touch and the speed control was cool. The thing would rip so hard when I hit the throttle that it kind of startled me. And, unlike my brushed motors, it had that "rip" for the entire pack, and not just the first minute.

So, down with brushed motors. May they rest in the history books where they belong*.

* I'm sure there's some practical application for them somewhere. Sort of like DJ's with turntables, audiophiles with tube amps and virgins with Betamax.

I've got a SuperSport ESC with the 5800, would you say that running the 5800 with the GTB is faster? Another question, besides the ability to run brushed motors and having lower internal resistance, what other advantages does the GTB have over the Super Sport? If I bought a 5.5 motor, would that work with the SuperSport the way it is intended to work or does the 5.5 really need to be matched with the GTB to "unleash" its full potential? Likewise, would other brushless motors work with the SuperSport? Thanks for the help.

The GTB with the 5800 could be faster. The shortcoming of the SS speed control was overheating. The 5800 motor has tremendous torque but I couldn't gear it as tall as it had the power to pull. A GTB should allow you to gear a 5800 any way wou want to.
An advantage of the GTB is that it has much more programability and drag brakes so that you can simulate the motor braking of a brushed motor.
I don't think you can run any BL motor other than the 5800 and 4300 with the SS speed control, they all are lower turn motors and will draw too much current.
