Yep, they are very similar and in fact I helped tweak my mates SP esc with my programmer card. But I don't think the internal hardware are the same coz both feels a little different. Not necessarily faster though.
Just loaded my esc with the latest software. Haven't tested it yet. Will see how it feels this tuesday.

just ordered myself a xerun 120 sd blue esc, how does the esc handle a 3.5 motor? will it go poof or is it ok? i will run a high speed fan on it.
its going to handle a 4.5t motor most of the time but our asphalt track is so large that i think that a 3.5 could be drivable even with 2s lipo.

it will handle it. One of the very few esc's that can handle down to 2.5 reliably.

I've been running this esc in my Xray 009 with SP 11.5T (Stock motor for this part of the world) and I have to admit that it can keep up with whatever esc thats out there. All it needs is a little more speed.
And also, the optional LCD program box is great for fine tuning and software updates. This makes the XERUN a great option for racers on a budget.
However, there's no discussion or tests done on this esc for the available software versions. Lets share what we know....
The available softwares, with the top being the latest are:
V1.10_090323a_m
V1.10_090323a_T
V1.10_090312a_T
V1.10_090205g_T
V1.10_090205c_T
V1.10_090205b_T
V1.10_090205a_T
V1.10_090115a_T
V1.10_090105a_U
V1.10_081025a_U
V1.10_080926a_U

Loaded new 100422 into my speedo and found the following;
After installing all settings must be done with the orignial setting box
#4 drrs 1-6 n/a
#15 SC punch 7-8 n/a
It feels smooth with a bit of punch (can only bench test because of the rain)
The bummer is that I can not down grade to older versions. I tried with V1.02 and V103-090704 in my lcd to bring it back to 110 or 324 and no happiness.
(WOOPS GOT IT SORTED) Downgraded with HobbyWing USB Link 1.5 then reloaded 110 and 230 and back to 422
Any ideas

I also loaded the new 1.6 HW software. First of all, I did upgrade from 1.02 to 1.04 091225. The softwares included are V1.10 205_mod, V2.0 100422_stock and (an older, I presume) V1.10 323a.
I installed the 422 stock to my Xerun 60A (running a Nosram 13.5T), on my KP09 motorcycle, set it at the basics, as per SP's earlier pdf (since HW won't give us any instructions!), and ran the bike at a local parking lot.
Mind you this update also kept saying to me "Please upgrade software", so I did everything twice, just to be sure!
At first it lagged a bit, then wheelied a couple of times, when it found good traction! but most of the time just span its rear wheel, when the SC came on rather abruptly, reminding me of old turbocharged cars (like the MK1 Fiat Punto GT I used to own years ago!). The bike is geared rather on the long legged side... at FDR 6.94, while I have been advised to go a bit longer as well to 6.69.
Anyway, I played with the settings a bit and came to a first conclusion a what MIGHT work for the bike, at least:
1. 1
2. 3
3. 5
4. 5 (when I had this at 7, there was lag... so I started lowering it)
5. 4 (and played with ATL from Tx)
6. 1
7. 1
8. 1
9. 7 (22.50*)(while it started default at value 4, eg. 11.25* timing)
10. 1
11. 1 but it doesnt matter, I guess
12. 8 (it was mid level, but not good, I incremented this one step a time)
13. 3 (I ran out of batteries and didnt test this any lower number, I d like to see what it does at 1 and 2)
14. 1 (off)
15. 1 (and I closely observed for overheating, but the motor was always good to touch for at least 5 sec - I forgot my temp gun at home!)
So far so good, the bike wheelied at least three times, probably at some places the traction was better, the throttle response was linear, a couple of times it did me some cogging when starting from dead, I pushed the sensor cable at the motor end in and it quit doing it! (I may need a new cable just in case). the top speed was spectacular, the mid to top was also very very good and what impressed me most was the linearity. With the bikes you NEED this feature, especially when the bike is leaned over and you start pushing the throttle, you don't want it to step sideways, highside and tumble. The "turbo lag" is not gone at all, but it's minimal and I will do some more testing at the track, this time...
My local track is quite huge, with three large straights (60m, 48m, 35m), so the parking lot was not that different!
I have not yet installed it in my son's Sprint2 RCGT which runs a 60A Xerun and a Nosram 17.5T, but that will have to wait till the end of May race...
I also installed the 205 version from the HW422 in my Losi XXXSG, running a Xerun 120A and a 5.5.T motor, and ran a few minutes to check that it was going straight. It is also linear but care must be paid here: By default it gives max AMTS at 26.25*!!!! I duly reduced that to 11.25*, of course!
