I read a post somewhere that a guy compared the weight of an all carbon chassis with all the aluminum parts to a factory tc3. They weighed just about the same. Personally, I think carbon fiber is just for the bling effect.

Carbon is lighter and stiffer but composite is more durable. I'm not sure though which one warps more because of the heat from the motor. Anyone else know?

from what i read the carbon is of course lighter however more fragile

Carbon--lighter, more responzive, fragile

Composite--little heavier, less responsive(more flex), but alittle more durable

One thing you also might want to do is also compare tire circumfrance with the guys you are getting your gear ratios from.
A couple of MM makes a difference if you run a bigger circumfrance tire then you would want a slightly lower gear ratio.or vise versa........

Roll Pin Pain in the Butt
 

Any other alternative to using the Associated Universal Roll Pin in the axle? Don't they make a stainless steel polished roll pin like in my Tamiya? I had a hard time getting them out when I wanted to clean out the bearings in my TC3 and I'm having a pain putting in the new ones that I bought.

Will the Associated Stub Axle Pins & Spacers RC18T work? I'd really hate to shell out $20 for the clamping hex drives.

roll pin issues-------AE does make a factory team full steel polished roll pin its part# 1654 although they can fall out sometimes if ur not payin attention

TC3 Life Span?
 

Hey guys. I just got my TC3 on the track and I was wondering how long you guys think it will be a viable car capable of winning. I know a lot of winning has to do with the driver (and believe me, this driver needs a LOT of work), but is the TC3 close to becoming obsolete? I have the base TC3 (not the Factory Team kit) and am wondering that, as my racing skills grow, would it be better to spend the money on hopping up my TC3 or just investing in a TC4, XRay, Yokomo, etc? Opinions would be most appreciated. Thanks!

The TC3 is still a great car and capable of winning at any race. There's only one guy that I race with that's still running a TC3 and he's very hard to beat. The difference I see in the newer cars is that they appear to be a little easier to drive. So average drivers do better because they make less mistakes.

My 2 cents

i know xrays are very popular and that the tc3 is very old compared to some cars out there. one of the top guys at our tack drove a tc3 for many years but now he has switched to a pro4 and he says its a little easier to drive.

but a tc3 still wins in major events, it all matters on who is driving the car. for a starter a tc3 is a great car. eray are much more difficult to work on and if you pratice enough you can get quite fast with a tc3.

however if you want to get competitive, you might want to look into getting a few hop ups. but what you get depends on the track. if your running indoor on carpet i would get a graphite conversion or if you wanna spend the big bucks, a BMI or IRS Chasis. in fact i am selling an IRS now on here take a look >>> http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthre...threadid=67863

by getting a graphite or bmi.irs carbon chasis it will stiffen the car up wich is great for carpet. out door a normal chasis is fine by by getting the graphite conversion it makes the car lighter as well a stiff but dont get a bmi/irs its no worth it, in fact is my make the car worse outdoor but it matters on your set up.

lastly setting up a tc3 correctly alone makes it much better and for that i would ask around your local track and see if you cant find another guy with a tc3 to help you set up yours.

I just bought a used Factory TC3 online and the buy who owned the car previously went with a spool in the front and replaced the stock 72T spur with a 100T 64P spur which he says is more efficient. He also added a swaybar to the front only. He also ran a 8T motor in it. Hope this helps.
