I like to think I'm at least "ok" at racing F1, but I realize there are plenty of better racers than me. That being said, I don't feel held back by a slower motor. What I feel held back by is having nobody to compete against.

As far as passing goes, at the Indoor Champs, Mark Sweeney laid a great pass on me for 4th at the second to last corner when I got a little wide. We had a good, race and a lot of fun. It's not fun to have nobody to race with, or ill handling cars to dodge all the time.

It looks like 21.5 is fine in some places, but I just see a lot of good things happening since 25.5 became popular.

ps. I'd like nothing more than to roll out the old wide cars on foam and LET IT EAT...that would be fun too.
I hear ya, Rob. You and I have discussed this before. I guess I'm just stubborn. lol...

I'm willing to give the new formula a chance. I assume that there will be a ROAR approved 25.5 list soon, then we can get it going at tracks everywhere. What 25.5 motors are you guys currently using?

I have to admit, when I drive my 21.5 cars full-tilt, my palms sweat a little bit and my heart races! When I drive the 25.5 cars, not so much. A little too tame. Kind of like my RC planes and helis. The planes are relaxing to fly, but the nitro helis make my palms sweat and heart race too! Guess which ones I prefer to fly at the field. ha ha.....

Yup. People blame speed as the issue. If they were honest with themselves, they would see that the issue usually stems from the local fast guys and no matter what speed they are going, they will win. It frustrates the guys vying for the middle of the pack and eventually they put up their gear. Rinse{25.5}repeat. This applies to almost every form of racing so it's not an R/C F1 phenomenon.

I have a feeling it would be big at first as slower guys think they have a chance to win and then it will shrink back to what we had with 21.5 as the same fast guys win.

Only difference will be we all have less money and a dusty 25.5 in out box

If they go with 25.5 can we please have a modified class? I mean this is f1 after all

I think the problem stems from people believing they can handle a certain wind of motor when they can't. If the class is 17.5 spec, everyone immediately puts a 17.5 in their car. If the class is mod, everyone goes to what the pros run, regardless of their personal skill level. I am guilty of this and I'm sure pretty much everyone has done this at some point in their past too.

Just because the fast guys' car looks glued to the ground, and yours isn't doesn't mean there is necessarily something wrong with your car. It could be as simple as not being as smooth on the throttle as a fast guy (learned my lesson here in 2wd off road). Admit that you could be at fault and at least try turning the eps down or running a different (slower) wind motor.

Everyone shouldn't have to go buy a new motor because a group of people feel the cars drive "better" with less power. They don't, they just are easier to "manage" for you...

As a person interested in F1 but hasn't put anything together yet, this motor of the month thing is really starting to turn me off of the class in general. I can't drop $700 on a car, and turn around and drop another $100 on a motor because everyone else has switched.

Just my .02

I just picked up a serpent f110 sf2 and planning on using it on a high traction carpet track. Anyone have any suggestions or tips?

Will your buddies sign up? If so, it's on.
No race director will turn away a class with a few cars signed up.

I'd hate to run mod in these new era F1's on rubber tires and all that.
We finally got them out of "parade car" mode with some good tires but mod sounds like a yard sale waiting to happen.
At least with my whiskey throttle driving style.

Now as RobK said, let's go back to wide and foam with mod motors and LET EM EAT!
Been there, done that and it works!
Scored my UF1 title (season 1 ) doing that action.

You won't like my ways but I'm sure me and the boys can help you make some of the right choices to help get your new F1 around nicely.

Saturday it's on at TQ Raceway!

Tuning Haus' winter series, best format in RC racing, carrying on the "racing all day vs qualifying all day" tradition of UF1 So Cal.

RobK, et al,
Seen the 2017 specs for F1?

http://www.ams-mag.com/news/2017-f1-...-10300454.html
Looks like 1/1 F1 is going wide with chassis and tires.
