Tekno RC takes 1st in both PRO4 and 1/8 E-Buggy overall in the JBRL Series

Barry Baker, Chad Panek, and Tekno RC - 2013 JBRL Electric Champs
------------------------
The ultra competitive 2013 JBRL Electric Series has ended. After 8 rounds of racing all over Southern California, the results are in. Barry Baker is the 2013 Pro4 Champ and Chad Panek is the 2013 1/8th Electric Buggy Champ.

In Pro4, Barry proved that the Tekno RC SCT410 is fast and consistent. Whether indoor or outdoor, smooth or blown out, the truck is simply the quickest and most durable 4x4 SC truck available. Barry put in a lot of hard work and excellent racing to take the overall championship. Congrats, Barry! Very well deserved.

In the ever-growing 1/8th Electric Buggy class, Chad Panek diligently drove his Tekno RC EB48.2 all the way to the championship. Chad made only a few adjustments to his vehicle throughout the series and stated that the EB48.2 buggy worked flawlessly at every race in the series. Nick Blais took an honorable 3rd overall in the series with his EB48.2. There were 4 EB48’s in the top 10. Congrats, Chad! Let’s keep it going.

Thanks to Jimmy Babcock and the JBRL crew for putting on a great series. See you all next year.

Do you guys balance your tires? What tire balancer are you using?

I just use an old stub axle, carrier, bearings, and hex to balance mine. Works great and is usually free, if you have old parts.

Does anyone know how long the associated 16mm springs are? I dont want them to be longer than the losi ones i am using.

The guys in the rc8.2 thread arent being helpful.

can't tell you exact lengths, but I use the AE springs.

The rear springs are basically too long for the weight of the vehicle. You can get by in a pinch up to the 2.7lb rate but it is noticeable.

the fronts can be useable. I was using the 3.9lb or whatever it is rating up front with the threading part up all the way.

Your best bet though if you are trying a different brand spring than Tekno or what you already have would be the hot bodies springs. they are actually shorter than the tekno springs.

Thanks , that answers my question. I am trying to go lower, so they wont work. I will order the hot bodies.

Depends on your complete setup, I know you said stock, But where you run your battery how big it is and what kind of power your putting down. Is the track rough/ smooth, big jump?
smooth tight crazy traction damp and almost as much dry, med sized jumps, battery is in stock location, have not done the battery mod, power system is viper copperhead 5150

I will give you my setup and let me know what you think.
1)Track conditions big double one twisty double and a step up. rough surface hard packed with good traction when wet and sl;ick as snot when dry.

2) the first thing I suggest is (depending on your speedo) set all timing boost and punch to zero. Turn your controller to 80% epa throttle on controller. 85% if you just cant stand to be in control. (orion 180a r10 pro with a 3656sd 4k hobby wing motor)

3) all settings should be done one at a time till you get what you want.
a)Remove center and aft braces. I took the front out but it keeps bending the drive shaft and does not give that much extra flex really. Battery all the way back. Balances my truck.
b) sweep to 0deg and kickup to 0deg. Front +1 deg toe out. Rear with +1.5deg hinge pin holder and axles two thick washers in front and 1 thin behind. Good entry turn in and good on power steering.
c) my shocks are pretty much standing straight up one hole in on the upper all the way out on the lower. stock front and red rear springs 30 front 30 rear oil with 1.3x8 pistons
d)ride height are axles level with body on. front maybe a little higher. I play with this depending on how fast I hit the face of the jumps and how well I can keep power on in the fast really fast sweeper.

Summary.... some things may seem to be opposite to giving you steering, like the battery which gives you a little more rear and a little less steering. It is a mixture of things that don't give you to much steering, or to much rear bite. this is one of those things that takes away a pinch of to much salt to make it a good chili.
If its too much take something else away to see if that was enough to make it do what you want.
Let me know if you like the settings as I am a smooth consistant driver some like the rear end looser but i like my truck driving every where i go.
Good luck

i will give this a shot this weekend at the track, planning on getting there early to do some tinkering

Stoopid Newb Question

There must be *something* I'm missing...

I'm stuck assembling my SCT, at the point where I'm to mount the front shocks. Whether I have them in the shock cap or loose, I can't seem to get the pivot balls on the shock standoffs on far enough to engage the locknut.

What's the proper method? This won't be my first 'doh' building my truck, but first one I couldn't figure out myself eventually.

If you can post up a picture that will help us immensely to diagnose the issue.
Are you using the plastic bushing that was on the shock parts tree to go on the standoff? I ask because you said "pivot ball" and that makes me think of the metal balls for the turnbuckles and shock ends (the bottom part) and those won't fit on the standoffs.

Congrats! I have to be the guy who asks if his setup has changed? Especially springs and pistons. :)

Cool. There is a chart I posted a few times on the springs with pound conversions and lengths. If you need it let me know.

Already tried radio and electronics but the radio is for this truck. I just finished my 410 and I'm not getting all the throttle that I should be, I just have two questions with rx8 gen 2 and futaba 4pksr, do I need to reverse the throttle channel 2 on the radio which is common with this radio and Tekin also the throttle mode is set to 50/50 does it need changed to 70/30? Thanks guys just got the truck and radio also the 4pks is the same if anyone in here is running that radio.

I run same radio and esc and yes I did have to reverse my throttle. I left steering at 50/50

There is a spring chart on the 1st page now, that has most all of the springs. Your chart does have more info on the AE springs though from what I recall.
