What would you guys say are the most major advantages to converting to hex all around? I keep trying to talk myself into it but I just cant.

It seems like its just adding weight to the car without gaining anything but "cool". I could see it on an sc10 or something I suppose. I dunno just seems like burning money on new rims and parts to me..Did I miss a memo on something?

It was talked about a while ago.

I have it on the rear only. I have to many front rims to change over.

I've had it, and went back to pin. Real advantage is you get less chance of stripping the wheel like you could with the pins.

For one, the new industry standard is the 12mm Hex. So going forward, all AE vehicles (at least buggies) will be 12mm Hex. This allows you to potentially capture more sales. Think about the guy who's run the 22 since it came out... now he wants to try a B4.1 but has 20 sets of tires. Who wants to waste all that. No way he would switch. With Hex's, that's no longer a problem. He can still keep his old tires for the new car.

Also the Hexes are less likely to blow out the rim, by rounding a pin slot or something if you have an issue.

Also you aren't going to lose bearings because they are in the hub.

Haven't even received my B4.1 worlds kit and I've already purchased 12mm hex conversion, new wheels front and rear, and traxxas collars/cups with losi BB springs.

Awesome forum.

nice what color springs did you get I would recommend starting with orange in front and yellow in rear I had silver in front and the front end was really bouncy but you will love your b4.1 worlds kit

Best suggestion I can make is if you are just getting the car, start with hexs now. If you have a ton of tires, buy all the stuff to convert to hexs and keep it in your box so you can run both. All your new rims you buy, get in hex form. That's what I did until I had gotten to a point where I only had a few sets of tires left on std. I gave em to a buddy and moved on. I still keep the setup in my box just in case.

Since I am starting from scratch this is exactly my plan.

I also picked up a JConcepts 78t silent spur and wheel locknuts. Am I overlooking anything?

yes the jconcepts silent speed is a waste of money it really doesn't make the car any quiter but avid bearings do

Good to know.. I switched it out with the Associated branded spur. Avid looks like they are out of some of the bearings. I'll just have to break the stock ones first.
