I store mine at 3.85 volts/cell and only keep them fully charged if I expect to run them within the next day or two. I charge and discharge them in parallel so it does not take that much effort to get them all to storage voltage or back to fully charged.

Let's talk about front axle height.

Some run in the middle, down, etc.

What is the handling characteristic that will be affected. I'm trying to fine my setup now.

What I want is more steering, specifically off power.

THANKS!

It changes downtravel in the front. It is a quick and easier way to adjust it without disassembling the shocks and changing the inside limiters. More front downtravel will give more on power steering from the center off.

Try taking out one .030 internal shock limiter in the REAR. You can do the same thing without disassembling the shocks by unscrewing the rear eyelets one turn.

The only time my batteries are discharged is after they are run in my trucks... I have had 2S lipos for well over a year and they work just like they did when they were new and they have never been "properly" discharged...

If you store them fully charged, it hurts their capacity. This is why the mfg's want you to store them at 3.8v/cell. I remember reading that they lose like 10% of their capacity per year more than they would usually use if you store them fully charged.

My 2w takes like 1600mah after a 7 minutes, so it's not like I'm going to dump. My 4w takes 4200mah and it might be an issue there. The reason we run 7 minutes in 4w is the guys with Losi's can't make time....

Wanna' bet??? :)

Castle 4 pole 3800 runs 10 minutes on a large outdoor track; just gotta' think the gearing through!

Clearly the truck has to be free and maintenance never hurts!

Sweet thanks. If i get the off power steering my truck will be almost dialed.

17 or 19 tooth pinion

Getting a mmp/3800 with a 5mm shaft on Monday. Robinson makes a 48 pitch pinion in odd tooth numbers (17,19,21, etc). Appears my stock sc10 rtr has a 18 tooth pinion. Any suggestions? Will fewer teeth on pinion give more torque and less high end or just the opposite. Thanks

The robinson racing pinion packs unless they have changed don't have any numbers on them. If you go with that, get a pinion caddy of some type to make it easier to identify what you have for pinion sizes.

As for punch, etc. The late Big Jim, one of the premier motor men of his day advised me that by going up on the pinion size, I would actually see an increase in punch. I was confused by this too until he explained that our motors are not line nitro engines and the torque is there right away, not after building up some RPM, etc.

Honestly, heck still confuses me sometimes but when I tried it, I saw what he meant.

the bigger pinions have the tooth count on them.

While I agree, IMO there's a point where you can get too big with the pinion and load the motor too much causing issue.

Cain 01-21-2012 08:14 PM

I agree as well.

Need sharper cornering.

Stock tires up front and beams in the rear. Have ss rebars I sometimes use in the rear. Anyone try the rebars in the front with beams in the rear? How do they compare to stock tires regarding improving cornering. Added some forward weight but still struggling. Servo is giving max throw left and right. Have my battery moved back approx 1 inch from end of battery tray. Have the ft ballast weight if anyone thinks it will help the situation. Need to fix as I am losing time to trucks that can make the corners sharper. Thanks

how much play is in your steering at speed?

By that I mean how much can you move your wheel with the steering at full throw left or right.

stock tires are junk for the most part IMO, I would try running the same tire front and rear, beams or the rebar your choice, and then try and adjust the setup from there. You will be surprised the difference they will make. A set of Barcodes may be a more middle of the road front tire option as well...get's expensive testing to get the right front tire though...

AlanHall 01-21-2012 09:55 PM

Have any of you used orange compound barcodes? I ordered these from tower thinking they were just a step over supersoft .. tower lists them as "soft orange compound" but now I seen blue-softs released and realized these are hard hot weather tires. But I didn't know how junk they would really be.
