Probably go to the hinge pins.

T-BirdJunkie 09-03-2010 02:46 PM

Have a std SC10 kit but don't remember set screws going in the hingepins?

Anyway...had a pair of Edges and Bowtie T's laying around with some empty wheels.
Should be sufficient for screwing around..

now im happy

Hello all,

Firstly i bought an sc10 rtr brushless package from Amainhobbies about a month ago. After receiving my hobbyking batteries it was time to take it out and give it a run. At first it was downstairs in the parking lot of my units and being a semi polished concrete floor there wasnt much grip but still fun none the less.
:D
So my next step was on the road where there is a alot more grip and i was suprised how fast it was for the 3300kv motor , more smiles:D:D:D:D.

Then took it to the closest soccer field and let it rip. Wow impressed. There was a mixture of hard packed dirt some sand and a lot of short grass with some really good natural undulation for jumps, Still impressed but kinda wanted something that was a bit faster.

So first of all i found a reedy 4900kv motor for 50bucks from losiparts house and it finally turned up thursday I quickly installed it and took it for a run in the slippery parking lot again. Meh:( wasn't really impressed didn't seem to much difference). So yesterday some hop ups i ordered turned up which included a blue milled motor plate, beadlock rims with bowties tyres ( the original rears are already worn to slicks) rear FT spring set and shock rebuild kit aswell as FT gold shock shafts all round ,Sway bar kit, rpm heavy duty ball cups and other bits and pieces.

So last night i rebuilt all the shocks put the FT shafts in and setup with the blue springs in the rear and left the standard gold springs in the front. I played around with cambers and ride height and installed the gold sway bay.

Woke this morning and first words were BUGGER, wet and rainy outside so back to the underground parking lot down stairs. Car handling was so much better, i mean ALOT better. The rain eased off and the outside drive way was still damp but not wet so ill go out and give it a fang,HOLY RUSTED METAL BATMAN, It was wheel standing up and down the driveway and flipped once.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D. Now im happy
Bigger motor reedy 4900kv
grippy tyres proline bowties
Ft suspension upgrades and sway bay
All equal a very happy first time associated owner and converted for life.
A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS AND OTHER THREADS IN REGARDS TO ADVICE , TIPS AND SETUP TECHNIQUES AND UPGRADES IT MAKES IT SO MUCH EASIER FOR A NOOB TO RC LIKE ME:tire::tire::tire:
if it dries up this weekend i may take some pics or vid of the truck.
thanks again

Grundor, did you change the gearing between the 4900 and 3300kv motors?

ThunderbirdJunkie is running 20/87 on his SC10 with a Sidewinder 4600 on 2S and it rips.

Hi TBIRD ,

No its still got the 18/87 from the rtr stock setup i wasnt sure how it would go and have done hours of research through the threads on gearing and everyone seems to have alot of different opinions. Mine is running a little hot judging by the 3 second rule (touch by finger ) I may try some different pinions but unsure which way to go smaller or bigger to get the mix of speed and heat sorted. I really wanted more top end that the 300kv was giving."I WANNA GO FAST". To be honest i was going to order a mixture if gears in my last order but forgot, oh well just another order. Hopefully it dries out for the morning here in sydney and i can take it down the park and see how it goes offroad. I'm actually quite surprised how well the Reedy 4900kv goes i was tossing up between that and a sidewinder 5700 combo but thought i already have the esc that will handle an upgrade ill try the $50 special kinda hard to resist. Any advice from what others who are running a similar setup will be appreciated and will be tried.
ps I am running turnigy 2s2p 5000mah 7.4 40-50c batteries.

Glad you're having fun with your new toy. I've been racing these things since 1986 and still get excited to race. I like reading stories like this. Enjoy your new truck! :tire:

LMAO that was good!

I do most of my work on a table that sits on a dark coloured rug.....many a time I've been on all fours with flashlight in hand searching for floor nuts and bolts. I curse and swear every time but yet I still work on a dark coloured rug:D

How hot is the 4900 getting? If it's not going past about 150-160F you should be fine (not sure what that is in Celcius). If you're running it all in grass, you have to remember that grass is a lot harder for the truck to push itself through than dirt and pavement and everything will get hotter. The 4600 is fine over on this end on 2S with a 4000mah hardcase Zippy battery and 20/87 gearing, so the 4900 can't be much different. The 3300KV could definitely be geared up though; try going up to a 22t pinion and the 84t spur, and work from there, with the 3300 if you think it's lacking top end.

The 2s2p 7.4 turnigy battery fits perfect z50. All i had to do is run the battery with the wires facing the rear and notch a small bit out of the foam. Its fits in with no slop or slack whats so ever, Before i bought them i checked the 2s2p specs and its actually 4 cells . 2 smaller cells joined to create one cell if that makes sense to you. charges and reads on my charger as 2s just like a 2 cell. have a look at the hobbyking site if your doubtful.

Sunny today so im out to go run it.

Um, dude, 2S2P does not mean the battery is 4 cells tall.

sc10 idler gear stripped

so i took it for a run had a roll and tried to hit the brake asap. no good clicking noise took it apart and found the idler gear stripped. maybe not enough slip on the slipper. got the part no and going to order but...... is there an upgrade for that idler gear part no 9360. ? or its made to be the weakest link so it doesnt wreck anything else?
