No they're not, I make some. Mine are aluminum though, but work just as good. There are tons of drivers using the aluminum THD sleeves on their buggies. The extra hole on the side is for putting a drop of CA glue in to help keep them on the outdrive. $18 shipped to anywhere in the 48 states.

Cool

Had a good race Wednesday with my old hand-me-down XXX4. She's still competitive, even when I'm driving.

The local club had a 30minute endurance race. Outa 10 cars in 4WD Mod Buggy I placed third. Had the only Losi. Most were B44s and BJ4s. There was at least one ZX5 Kyosho and a HB D4 or two. Several folks were faster than me. I had just gotten this former basket-case car together that afternoon, and had zero track time with it. I hadn't raced 4WD Electric Buggy since 1987. Just recently got back into racing 1/10th Gas Truck (AD2) and MT. I'm certainly still rusty.

Consistancy and luck ruled out. However, I couldn't figure out why my driving seemed to be going downhill. 15 minutes in I was having trouble in sections where the XXX4 was sailing through before. Chocked it up to fatigue (I had been up almost 24 hours at that point due to working a midnight shift before, then mad-wrenching on the car, then driving 1+ hours to the track).

Then I heard the rear dif making nasty noises on it's way by. At the end of the race I found out that not only had the rear dif died (lotsa crunchies), but I'd sheared the left rear wheel drive pin. Did the last 10-15 minutes with only the front wheels driving! Still held onto third...

I was amazed. My XXX4 felt awesome on the track (hard packed, loose and dusty on top. Tight and technical, with some trickey rythm sections). None of the newer designs seemed any better. I was basicaly running the Travis A. setup.

My three+ year old GTB/Velocity 6.5R setup (with added smartstop as this GTB has no built in cutoff) was great. With 17/92 gearing I got over 30 minutes of run time out of a 6000mAh Maxamps saddle lipo jiffy-rigged as a stick pack (loaner from a friend with a broken B44!) with time to spare and good motor/esc temps at the end.

Granted, this was just a club race, but there were a lot of faster guys with 'newer' cars out there. The fastest guy out there had transponder trouble. I'd have been fourth outa 11 for sure if he'd stayed in it! Gonna rebuild that dif and get back to club racing my "old, outdated" plastic XXX4 against those new fangled B44s!!!

I just got one and all the slipper stuff needs to be replaced, would a xxx-s spur gear assembly work until I get all the parts I need?

I believe the original XXX4G+ came with the aluminum CVD's. Newer kits come with the LCD's in the front and universals in the rear. I don't know when they switched over but the car I got this spring had the LCD's/universals.

it probably wont, the xxxs doesnt have a slipper, and the pulley on the spur on the xxxs is larger than on the xxx4, so the belt will end up too short and the tensioner wont fit

I just talked to Todd about this earlier this week. Yes, it will work but the pulley is different on the XXX-S Spur, so your final drive will be different as an FYI.

I'm working on getting mine ready for 2 weeks from now Can't wait.
