Go up a few gears, or go to a smaller spur. Whats the temp when it stops running? Is you belt tension to tight?

mixedguy- The problem is you're trying to race with a 3s lipo pack, that's gonna be too much voltage making the car very fast and overheating your esc as well. If you absolutely want to run that pack then go smaller on the pinion gear until the temps come down to where it isn't overheating.

Hey guys just wondering if there was a xxx4 faq or something. I am getting one next week used and this will be my first 4wd buggy and really the first car I will race offroad. Just looking for needed upgrades and what to look for.

If you smack the front end on this car you are gonna need some new parts like front diff covers and hingepin supports, shock towers (just keep changin em, don't beef em up or you will break the chassis instead) but other than that stuff it is a fast and fun car.
Drive it carefully til you get used to it, motor down and you will have lots of fun. Motor up and you will have even more fun but you will crash and break parts just like any other 4wd buggy.
More than enough info in this thread to get you what you need, lots of good reading.

You'll need to add weight to the battery side to balance the car from side to side. If I remember right I added just under two ounces to the battery side to get mine balanced.

exactly, u can get the aluminum pivot supports which are stronger, but if u smack the car (any car) hard enough, something will break, better an arm or tower, oh get spindles and carriers too, ive done a few of them, but that advice of motor down, learn to drive it is the best, by design, the thing is very efficient in the drivetrain and its light, so it accelerates like a monster and has great top speed

Never gonna happen, the XX4 will blow away the XXX4 on a real offroad (rough) track and still hold it's own on a smooth track.
There are several good setups for the XXX4 in this thread tho.
The kit setup is close and only needs a couple variations to go fast.
Start there and tweek it to do what your driving style needs.

I think losi makes more than one body for it.

Thanks for that, i love my xx4, in Australia we've been runing 13.5 as our stock class and the car has been awesome, but we've just aligned ourselves with the USA and 17.5 has become the stock motor (which i dont mind, i also think that the usa has it right with the 13.5 being the superstock motor but here its 10.5 and therefore i might as well be running mod) anyway the xx4 is getting eaten in a straight line with the 17.5, and you can get much more cooling into a xxx4 so they can be geared taller and the much more efficient drive train means i have to go xxx4, i'll look through the setups in here and see what the standard one is and go from there, im preparing for our nationals which are being held in mid summer on a 1/8th sized track with big jumps everywhere and a mix of high speed corners and tight ones, reasonable grip but dusty and blockheads/x2000's as the control tyre
