ESC question. Is there a ‘must have’ programming feature the RX8 has that the Losi/MMP or the SCT Pro don’t have? I am already familiar with Castle Link programming and all those features.

Thanks.
The one difference that i kno of w/o knowing all the settings on the RX8...The RX8 has what is called a "CURRENT LIMIT" which actually stops power output at whatever percent you have it set at TO WHERE the SCT Pro has a "PUNCH" setting which changes the initial power output when the trigger is pulled to whatever setting and controlling the initial punch but still allowing full speed/power.

Personally i like the current limit of the RX8 and can help control heat issues but i paid as much for my Hobbywing SCT Pro and HW 4700kv ESC/MOTOR combo as you will for the RX8 so depending on what your budget is...can play a roll but my gear keeps up with the Tekin and im more than happy with my decision and would do it again, only downfall is warranty from HW but no problems here.
ENJOY

How would this combo be in the scte? Also, how would it compare to the rx8/pro4 4600kv performance wise?

Thanks. Castle has bunch of settings, labeled differently, but probably do the same thing - punch contorl, motor based torque limit, timing, and start power.

I don't think that motor will be enough, it's a two pole I think, the pro4 is a four pole, esc would be ok with an external bec, IMO there's better options.

ahh, "start power" sounds like my "punch" setting

But with the LCD programmer there is roughly 10 settings total

Thanks for the input! That motor is actually a 4 pole. I'm trying to find an alternative to the tekin combo (pro4 4600/rx8). Something with the same power and speed but less expensive. Others have suggested the tenshock sc401 but I'm wondering how it stacks up to the pro4 and what esc to pair it with.

I know a few people who run a tenshock and a hobby wing ESC and have been doing pretty well.

That motor would be plenty.......................but it would be nice to have a sensored motor to take advantage of the extra boost settings in the speedo. A 15 tooth pinion should be good for most larger tracks.

I just got my tenshock 411 4600 and raced it today, I have to admit it's a BEAST motor!. I let a few of the other guys with the Tekin Pro4 in their Losi's and they said they will be ordering one very soon. So I would say for the money it's equal if not better.

I must agree got to love the 4600 sc411..... tremendous power and a price point to boot... running it with my SCT Pro esc and temps are great!!!

Also, the Toro ESC would be a good budget ESC as well. http://builtrc.com/toro_sc_esc_120_amp.aspx

I run the Tekin RX8 ESC with the Tenshock 411 4600kv motor and it's great, but I already had the RX8 from a previous 1/8scale.

Seems like a good combo. Does it come with a signal wire and everything else you need? Also, do you have to run an external bec with that combo? I know some people were saying the bec on the hobbywing was insufficient.

The motor comes with a sensor wire, I'm not sure if the ESC does. It's always a good thing to run a BEC on your receiver to prevent any power loss, especially with ESC / motor combos and servos that draw a lot of current.

I have the sct pro and 120 xerun and the internal bec has been fine with a jr9100s servo and dual fan on the motor.
