Well going from the 099 to the 077 made all of the difference, it ran great for the heats and main. Finished second though, my own newbie mistakes as it was my fourth race.
Anyway I am just waiting for the balls to drop, it has a gallon now and every time it has been started it was pre heated. The movement of the piston when the plug is out is about smooth now so I am hoping that within the next 1/4 gallon it will finish breakng in. It does not have the scream up top yet, still just a bit ragged and I know that as soon as it breaks fully it will smooth out up top and I will be able to lean it out.
Still running 225-230 right now and it is running very well for not being broken in.

Monty, I just read Ron Paris' article that you stickied and I have a question. He recommends running the Nova's at 230-270 which is hotter then you have recommended. So far I have followed everything that you have said to do as you obviously have a lot of experience with these engines, but you also stickied his article and you obviously hold Ron Paris in high reguard. Do you agree with his heat range? I try to run 230, should we be aiming for 240-250 or is this data perhapse a bit outdated in that reguard. I do need to tune the engine as he says on the bottom, I think that I might be a bit rich down low as my idle does slow down just a bit, not much but it does. I also need to pay attention to how muchsmoke I am putting out accelerating out of a corner. Thanks again for your time, I ask you as you obviously have more experience with these Novarossi's then most.

monty i have a problem...
my dad has been breakin in his +4. hes been idleing on the bench keepin temps about 200...
tonight i guess he couldnt get them past 180. i told him to put alum foil on the head but watch the temps. temps got to 220 so he richened it up then it died. now it wont turn over. he called me while i was at work and didnt know...
so i tore it apart when i got home expecting a rod to be broke or something because the piston wont move. i opened it and everythin was fine. i heated it up got the piston down and moved it back up and it will only go about 3/4ths of the way up before it hits the pinch and wont move past the pinch. so i put everythin back together tried movin the piston and i guess it went back to the pinch. i heated it for a good min and the piston still wont move. i can tear it apart again and move it down by pushin the piston like i did the first time but there has to be something wrong. any ideas?? you can reply here or call me 480 277 4177
EDIT: i tried puttin a new collet on the crank because the one on there was just free on the crank. and the new one doesnt have a tight fit either, when i put the flywheel on it seemed like it didnt go back far enough either.

if it happens to be upwards of 270 then so be it . there is no magic with these engines , they like what they like as far as pipe, plug , etc. . if you listen to the engine it will let you know if you have the right combination . tune the engines for the peak of power just so you know where it is at then detune 15-20% so you gain a little more longevity . monty

its not a shim problem, i had the head off turnin it by hand and it would get stuck. i had a hard time keepin the sleeve down so i put the head back on without a plug and its the same but it just keeps the sleeve down. im a big guy and im strong and i couldnt turn the piston over while it was heated and the plug was out
