looking for some help/advice!!! i have one of the first version 3 port r spec engines and have had some tuning issues as of late. mainly the dreaded lean bog and all around just lacking power bottom and top. now yesterday i had several veteran tuners even try tuning it including someone who was familiar w/ GO engines w/ no luck. ive tried the base settings of flush on hsn and 2.5 turns in from flush on the lsn and using a OS P3 plug and Dyn 086 pipe. today i removed the hsn and lsn and found the small orings torn up some so they need replaced but cant find them anywhere online
and i guess i need to get one of the newer lsn to try also. anyone know where i can get some new orings and the newer needle to try?

I posted last week about my tuning issues with my 3R. I tried the suggested 2.5 turns in on the lsn and flush with the HSN. It wouldn't move when I put it down on the ground. It revved up, albeit not that high, and blew a nice cloud of smoke. Only after turning the hsn a turn in from flush would it take off. It ran okay today, but not GREAT yet. I can feel this engine having lots of power if I could just tune for it. Everything I know about nitro tuning(admittedly, not that much) is thrown out the window on this Go engine. I think the problems with Go are only partially the carb, and mostly the way they tune.
The track I run at has a long back stretch with a big double and a huge triple. Basically, when I got it 2.5 turns in on the LSN and about a turn in on the HSN(only way it would move), it would go around the track, but it would really struggle when I pinned the throttle to get over the double and the big triple on the back straight. I would describe the sound it made as a tearing sound or a raspy sound at full throttle, and it would kind of plateau. There's also a cross over on the track that you have to get pretty close to full throttle to make it over, and it would make the same sound there. The first few laps, it didn't have enough top end to get all the way over the double, let alone the triple. After a few laps it would make it over, but still make that noise at full throttle.
Other than that, it ran well, temps around 210-225.
Should I have left the HSN at flush and just fiddled with the LSN?
Help is much appreciated of course.

Not sure if it was this forum/thread or another, but someone had asked if Go piston/rod/sleeve fit a Novarossi P5XS....well....it does!
I had this P5XS that needed a p/r/s and didn't feel the need to spend $170 for a set. While doing some researching for alternates, I came across information from someone, I forgot who it was, and he briefly mentioned something about Go parts working in Novarossi engines. So, I decided to try an $80 experiment with new Go p/r/s in my P5XS.
First, I removed the used P5 rod and swapped it out with the new Go rod to use during break-in. Basically, saving the new Go rod until after break-in and race tune.
Then, performed Racefactor break-in procedure and race tune.
Then, after that, put the new Go rod back in and continued to do final race tune at the track....and boy!!!! It peformed FLAWLESSLY!!!
The person pitting for me could not believe it. After several laps, it temped at around 215F and was running great. I told him to lean the top end until I started to temp around 230F. It was AWESOME!!!
Anyway...bottom line is that it works. That was yesterday.
Today...on my Go 3R Race (not '08 version)...I decided to swap out my LSN with a Novarossi LSN. So far, that seems to run great. I don't think I'm seeing that "infamous" lean bog thing that most people are experiencing, but I won't know for sure until I race it at a track. I'll keep you guys updated on that.
FYI...I still have to break-in my G0 5 port and 7 port that I purchased from BHR hobbies...Thanks Brian34! (hopefully that 7 port will be in my hands this week)

I havent recieved my PTM 5 port yet but have been doing alot of reading up on tuning them and how some people have been having trouble. So since I am not a master tuner I am thinking about bidding on a V-SPEC carb on Ebay. If not a Vspec carb what other "cheaper" options for replacement carbs are there that I could use?

My PTM 3R is still blazin'!!!!!
Had our 4th round of points racing Sat....I qualified dead last due to center diff and what I thought was a clutch problem. Turned out my clutch problem was really a pipe problem and all my THD clutch hardware had held up perfectly. I was running the Dyn. 086...our track apparently required alot more bottom end than I thought. Changed to the OCM Redline and retuned for the last round....................nice!!!
I couldn't pull a mileage run but I knew I could run 7 1/2 min easy with an IDRC 7mm carb insert.....so we ran 8 min stops. This engine has around 4 gallons on it now and the fuel mileage is increasing as time goes by..............I easily could have ran 9 min stops. I have some IDRC 6mm inserts on order....I believe I will be able to SAFELY pit at the 10 min. mark with this insert. IDRC has an awesome product with these venturis'......and Ralph is a cool dude.
Went from last to second place in a 30 min A-main against a tough class of buggies.......engine temped at 248 when we were done.
I feel like I easily had one of the fastest and most dependable engines there....my wife videoed almost all of the race so look for vid. to be up soon.

If yours is running fine I would not worry about it. Something with the needles supposedly making it hard to tune. I do not see that as a problem at all, just have to tune it differently and have patience. Once you know what to do it seems like it tunes just fine. Thats my opinion.
