I was marshalling at turn 1 which is a sweeper after a very long straight (around 90m/180ft) and initially thought it was either a Sirio or a JP because of the blue head and the high pitched sound at peak RPM. I went over to have a look, and it turned out to be a TZ. He swore that it was box stock!

The guy ended up second but i can honestly say, this little beast made engines that cost 3 times as much, eat humble piedown the straight!!!

My only concern is longevity. Are they durable, and do their carbs hold tune?
OS Engines are known for their carbs holding their settings. That definitely is not an issue. Longevity will not be an issue either. My 12TZ has only broken the 200F degree barrier three times. Ran mine hard at a club race yesterday and had an average temp of 181F degrees and was hanging with a JP FX-03 and a Novarossi NS-3 with no problem. The engine impressed a couple of friends of mine so much that they are going to get one. Not bad for a $200usd engine. With a rebuild on it well under $100usd ($50usd for a piston/sleeve, $20usd for a rod), it is worth the investment.

Go with the TZ 3 port. Its parts are cheaper and it has more demand everywhere, meaning if you wish to sell it, it will sell faster. Not to mention P/s for 3 port is cheaper if i aint mistaking.

You always should think 5 steps ahead of yourself.

i switched from 20 to 30% fuel..man this engine seems to like it better and wicked fast!!..it's showing its true potential and the temp doesn't change that much

Is it true that TZ 3 has 2 versions? When you see at the backplate, just below the up arrow theres a number engraved on it either number one(1) or two (2). I was told to get the number two (2) version because it is supposedly faster than number one(1). Can somebody confirm about this?

hey guys, im ordering my engine within like 2 hours, when my dad comes home and i have it narrowed down to 2...novarossi N12LL3 and the OS .12 TZ 3 port. I was wondering which one would be faster and whichone would live longer...I read MANY MANY good things about the LL3 powerful, lasts forever and nice. I read the TZ is very powerful but i dont think its as much as the LL3 and i hear bad things that it doesnt last too long and its still not a novarossi?

Which would you pick and why?

You really cant go wrong with any of your choices.as far as O.S. not lasting long you have been mislead. i own both motors and can say the O.S. is running very strong in my mugen and is the main motor i use .you can probably save some $ by getting the O.S. so you can buy xtra fuel and plugs!
as far as reliable they both are very good at what they do

heheh thanks for the quick reply. Yeah i was pretty sure the OS would last longer but they both seem like such awsome engines and its only $50 difference in price so i don't care about that. And i have seen both run and my local tracks and the both go rocket fast and i talked to the drivers and they both said they were awsome. Im ordering right now, will let you know which one i get.

EDIT: Well i just ordered it! I got the Novarossi N12LL3, MX-3 Synthesized and 4 ellegi pairs...a 37 shore, and 40 fronts and 42 and 45 rears. Now i just can't wait for them to come

Apparently Surikarn ran an OS engine at Winternats......this engine was wicked quick......the track at Illawarra certainly isnt huge/long, but his OS was just as fast as the Rodys and JP FX`s etc in the A Main....his 2nd place is testimony to how quick these engines are
Cheers
