Right now with the New Wave 17.5s they seem to eat up gearing as I am running 29/72 on my TLR with a fan and the motor comes out really cool.......

The 17.5 MC5 I run in my LD3 is pretty fantastic. Haven't had it on a motor analyzer yet, timing is 45 degrees on the endbell so I'm guessing it's actually a little lower, geared 30/71 (basically 29/72 for a TLR), runs pretty cool and I'm not wanting more speed plus have plenty of low end to clear most everything I need to. Picked it up used and very glad I did.

Yes when setting the timing I landed on ~43 degrees I believe which gave me 26,500 rpm with KV of 3724 pulling 5.3amps
I tested my Motiv MC5 17.5T and IIRC I was getting about 24K rpm with their factory set 47 degrees of timing which was showing slightly less timing on the analyzer. I will hook up the MC5 again today as it isn't installed in anything right now. I am running two TLRs with New Wave 17.5s now, which I do not have readings on.
EDIT: So the MC5 17.5 comes "factory set" at "47 degrees" which measured 43 degrees and produced 21,178 rpm and 2901 KV @4.3amps. I tweaked the timing to a measured 46 degrees (so +3 degrees) and got 21,480 rpm 2983 KV @ 5.1 amps..........I realize different analyzers and conditions etc but just some fun additional data points.

That 17.5 is on the slower side, but what is the torque on it? It might not be great for on-road, but it might be a rocket on tight tracks.

"Speed" wasn't/isn't an issue for me with my times on the clay track as my "issues" have been all the guy behind the controller for the most part now that my car setup is solid. So now that I can hang with the big boys with a little more consistency (low 90%s in consistency) I am open to trying for some additional speed. That being said I am impressed with the New Wave Ultras as well once I pushed their timing a bit. They have eaten gearing pretty well and run cool. So swapping to the MC5 is a case of "if it ain't broke, break it"......I can always swap back.
Fun stuff regardless.......

I will probably swap the MC5 into the clay TLR and see what happens.........if for no other reason than a brand new motor is staring me in the face.....lol

Update/Correction to where I landed on the MC5 with the simple motor analyzer......
Since I was racing last night I charged up my batteries etc and wanted to finalize my initial timing setting on the MC5 17.5 and that turned out to be 47 degrees by my own setting BUT when I ran it with the topped off batteries as opposed to previously with packs with a storage charge......the MC5 was running at 23,842rpm and just over 3000 KV at 5.5 amps.......and knowing it is probably making great torque that seems like a really solid starting point.
One last race weekend with the New Wave in my clay car and then I will swap out.

You mean at the track? Not sure, just tested my motors and will be heading to the track on Friday. Also have a HW G4R w/JUS rotor, SP5, Slot Machine 2 w/stock rotor and another with a red rotor. Will see how they all do, 1/10 off-road on wet clay.

I'm really excited to see how well the Slot Machine 2 will do. Another good motor is the Tekin R2. It's about as torquey as the Surpass V6 heavy weight.
