Not sure if my question deserved its own thread, so posting here.

How do you adjust timing going from a standard rotor to a long high torque rotor? Keep the timing the same or advance?

Do you want the quick answer or the long winded one?
I'll start with the quick answer. I would leave the timing in the same spot and test. Then I would drop the timing by a degree or two (difficult...) and go up a tooth on the pinion. If you had optimal timing and gearing to start with, it is unlikely that advancing the timing would be of benefit.

What motor do you have?

My experience with R1 and the long rotor was use the same timing but adjust the gearing. Larger pinion and/or smaller spur.

The Exalt is a killer motor. I tested their 21.5 motor. Rotor strength is really nice and the motor runs killer on the track.

I finished testing the HW G4R. It's a really good motor. I just have to edit the film before I post it.

Here it is. I need to do better editing, but I really hate editing.

you’re in Sacramento or near it correct? In your video you stated that the G4R had the highest rotor you have tested. Off the shelf I currently have 4 brands that average 1800 on both my Fantom Facts machine as well as the WMS checker. Curious to see if you get the same numbers.

Makes me want to go out and buy a G4R motor, and I don't run stock anymore, lol.

I'm near the south Sac area. What brand are they?

So the HW 17.5 is putting out 25K rpm and 3300 KV at ~5-6amps? Meanwhile I get not much more out of my brand new Team Powers 13.5T at the same 5-6amps with 26.6K rpm and 3700KV.....

True, but you will have a lot more torque. You should be getting around 26k RPMs, right?

Yes when setting the timing I landed on ~43 degrees I believe which gave me 26,500 rpm with KV of 3724 pulling 5.3amps

I tested my Motiv MC5 17.5T and IIRC I was getting about 24K rpm with their factory set 47 degrees of timing which was showing slightly less timing on the analyzer. I will hook up the MC5 again today as it isn't installed in anything right now. I am running two TLRs with New Wave 17.5s now, which I do not have readings on.

EDIT: So the MC5 17.5 comes "factory set" at "47 degrees" which measured 43 degrees and produced 21,178 rpm and 2901 KV @4.3amps. I tweaked the timing to a measured 46 degrees (so +3 degrees) and got 21,480 rpm 2983 KV @ 5.1 amps..........I realize different analyzers and conditions etc but just some fun additional data points.

If the MC5 17.5 is anything like the 21.5 and 25.5 MC5's they like low timing and a lot of gear. They are torque monsters that the analyzer isn't showing you.
