are you measuring with insert in or insert out ? and if its out and .5 wont fit then yes open the idle gap...and if it seems lean fatten it immediately !

It was lsn way too rich, hsn lean. Classic with long lsn carb

I need help here guys.
Drove my new HB car today at a race and at one point lost the air filter and ran without it for a few lap (It was very well held with a zip tie).
The car stalled a lot too so I though that I must have killed it . Most the time at the end of the long straight.
I checked the intake of air with and earbud and it was fairly clean. The motor was a total pest and would just stall and stall when touching the throttle. I was super worried.
Eventually I tuned the motor with the help of my mate were basically we had to lean (a LOT) the HSN and LSN. Then the engine behaved itself ok (before that the car was spitting an awful lot of oil).
I had a hunch at the time (but couldn't test it as I didn't have one in stock) that it could be a bad glow plug choice.
I always run a C6TGC plug and today's weather was quite hot, about 100°F (35+°C) and I think the glow plug was too hot. Am I correct thinking this?
My second problem is that novarossi's glow plug are now getting very hard to get and all LHS don't sell them anymore I might go with OS plugs... presumably it's a one way ticket but as long as it works I'm ok. What would you recommend as next week's race will possibly have the same heat conditions ?

I wouldn't use anything but novarossi plugs. The mesh of the thread aren't the same as OS plugs and could damage your head

So is the Ofna 053 a bad pipe for the p5xlt or did I just get a dud?

I could not tune it for the life of me with the 053 on there. I had to run the LSN lean just so it wouldn't bog down during takeoff. There was hardly any balance between rich and lean with that pipe.

So I threw the 2096/41021 on there and all the tuning issues dissappeared. I was finally able to richen the LSN back out to where it should be and finally got a nice consistent idle.

Maybe I'll try the 053 with a different header and see how it does. That pipe did have a ton of mid range torque though, I could pop wheelies with my mbx7t when I could actually get it tuned decently.

As for your plug choice, you ran the correct plug for an off road engine. If you need alternatives, the O'Donnell plugs are nova clones. The 97T is a great choice.

I dislike OS plugs in Novarossi engines (and they fits just fine in them). In my rather old BTT, I struggled with load up even though I ran a new P3 plug. Thought the plug was the ok for the engine so just kept running it (Cold weather). After ½ a liter or so the engine stopped and couldn't start again. Fault: broken coil (didn't dropped down in the engine). I then found a used OD77T plug and the engine ran FLAWLESS after that. Such a big difference!

Really? Hmmmm i guess after all these years i better rethink how i do it huh, thanks for the info

counting the turns is the only way to get an accurate setting , flush and flush could be off by as much as half turn on top and a full turn or better on bottom . Granted the engine will have to be properly tuned in any case but counting turns from bottomed out is a precise method of setting the carb

btw you better email novarossi and most other manufacturers to stop setting the carbs like that at the factory ,lol

I have rb2097 pipe with a extra short manifold, will it be a good combo for 4btta? I do have other nova pipe 9901/9886/2096-41021. Any of this pipe similar to it?

I really liked the Orion 2058 with the btt the 9886 will get the most power with the least fuel mileage the 2096 will be the smoothest with best fuel mileage
