Hopefully someone can help a tad with tuning. Fairly new to SC racing, but have a few years of bashing under my belt.
I have a viper 10.5/esc combo. Recently I've been racing against the really fast guys running everything from 8.5-13.5 mod (mostly SC10s, which is what I run and the truck set ups are comparable) and I can keep up on the straits and through the corners without much trouble, but there is one sharp corner that leads into a double, and I seem to have trouble getting enough bump in time to clear it consistently. Track is high traction, medium sized and I was running 24/78, but recently started having climbing temps when they changed the track a bit, so I moved to 18/87 (stock). Same results with both gearing though. I have not played much with the settings outside the braking and run profile 2 and 8.
Can anyone offer up a suggestion on where to start with tuning the esc and/or gearing suggestions, so I can give these tekin guys a little more pressure
.
Thanks in advance. And I searched, but there isn't much info here or on Viper's site concerning the 10.5.

zZ - what are others running for gearing with a 10.5, that should put you in a ball park. Traction and chassis set up will have a little to do with it and so will how you drive the corner before that jump (keeping momentum up or not spinning tires). I would think profile 2 would be good. What other setting are you running on the speed control - maybe that can help a little.

I found another issue with my Viper 17.5 that I believe was my fault. When I opened up the motor I took the rotor out and when I put it together again the magnetic force sucked the rotor back in and hit the sensor board. Two small components on the sensor board have broke off. They are rectangular in shape and solder to the board on each end. One is brown and the other appears to be black. Can I solder these back on myself? What do they do? Can I get away with simply bridging the gap on the board with solder? What would that effect?
I plan to order another sensor board. Was hoping I can fix this one before the new one arrives.

Just wanted to say I LOVE my VIPER setup and I will 10000% be kieeping it! It worked great today at the track, All the features built into the ESC were very helpful.
In response to my initial problem with reverse, I dont feel its as big an issue as I though it would be. I have been able to kind of drive around the problem by modifying my style a bit and just making different decisions when I go off the track. Overall, its working well enough and I dont think it will be detrimental to my decision, I will be keeping my Viper setup, which I love!
Thanks again, shout out to Nikos as well, he has been VERY HELPFUL!
Anyone have any good tips on the starting timing/boost for a 17.5 motor setup? As well as the slew rate? I have gotten it pretty good but some advice would be grand.

I have a Viper R/C VST10.5t motor and a Novak Kinetic Spec ESC. My question is does the this series of Viper motors have an internal temperature sensor? The reason I ask is because I hooked up the ESC to Novalink and I looked at the temperature and it said the motor temp was 200 and the ESC temp was 120 during the last run I made.
I temped the motor and ESC with a temp gun while I was running and when I was done and the motor and ESC were both were never above 115. This was no boost and stock timing on the motor

I would say I'm fairly consistent with them in relation to the cornering, but they seem to have a tad more pep that allows them to clear the double (12' gap) and I seem to come up short 6"-12' each time

If you are running an 8.5, even in a higher heat situation, the VTX10 will be OK. if you plan on running a 6.5 or lower in the future and only want to get one speed control - then yes, plan ahead and get the VTX10R. I have used a 7.5 in my 2wd with no issues of heat or concerns - if that helps. And remember, the fastest motor does not always win - the driver who can control it does..... I have seen a good driver with a boosted 13.5 beat drivers of equal skill with an 8.5 because the 13.5 better suit the track and was actually easier to drive fast.

Control will win versus HP almost everyt time, unless you're racing guys named Tebo, Cavalieri, etc...
Also I tried driving a buddies 4wd with a different brand super programmable esc, was crazy trying to control it as it just wasn't as smooth......

Put some more time on my copperhead esc this weekend. Got my replacement 5150 kv motor and replaced the tenshock i had in the scte i had been using. Runyime seemed to be ok in 8 min main whereas the tenshock 4600 seemed to dump my lipo shy of 8 mins......only issue i had was a cpl times after a slight crash the truck seemed like it shut off when it was set back on the track. Like the esc cutout for a cpl seconds then took off fine......weird but finished the main unlike i could before so overall the system is pretty good imo

Here are some tips straight from the pros. Viper has released a 4X Cap module that can boost performance in your on-road and off-road vehicles. It gives you smoother power and stronger brakes.
Here is the part number 6VSPCAP003

Here you can see the module installed next to a VTX10R. This setup during track testing was 2 tenths faster in touring car 17.5 Spec class and brakes hit stronger and smoother

More tips to come so stay tuned!!!!
