Also ROAR rules will not apply to this system becaust it is not a pro race system although it will perform just as well as other systems. Our aim was to provide a budget system that you can race at club/race level.

If you have any questions please let me know.
Which is the best choice for sc10 4x4?

If you can convert the SC10 4x4 to use Mach One pinions and spur i would suggest the Copperhead VX4R.51 with the 5mm rotor shaft. Amazing power and you can always de-tune the power of you need to (Suggested for smaller tracks)

I know this is the Viper thread, just thought I would ask for some opinions.
I can tell you first hand that I had a 3800/MMP before installing the Copperhead. I was very skeptical, but have since put the 3800 in the tool box. I can't say this enough, but the Copperhead is smooth....really smooth. It's a big difference from the 3800.
Not taking anything away from the Castle, I ran it for 6mths and never a problem. great little motor that should get more respect.

With that said....I'm staying with the Viper.

What am I missing here, attempting to calibrate the copperhead to my transmitter and don't get any response other than the initial beeps letting me know I'm in calibration mode on the esc. Hold the button down on the esc for a few seconds esc powers up and beeps and the N and F light are lit. Pull the trigger to full throttle and hold and nothing happens no lights no beeps etc? All rates are set at what they should be in the radio, fully charged battery, profile is loaded in the esc. Steering servo works fine and if I unplug the battery power it up and drive it I have brake and throttle but I would feel better knowing it's calibrated to the radio so I'm getting 100% each way? Radio is the Radiopost TS401 Thanks

When you pull full throttle, you need to push button while holding full throttle
Then do same after holding full brake.

How does the Viper motor compare to the PRO4 and the Tekin SCX4 4.5 550 motor?

The Pro4 is a very good motor.

I will say I race against guys with Pro4's and the Copperhead system isn't holding me back. Guys will tell you the system is plenty fast for most of us..... Especially if on a budget. That's what it was made for.

To answer your question....I would say the VTX10R/VST Viper line is more comparable to the Pro4/RX8

I will be racing a RCPro event this weekend with the Copperhead to see how it does at a big event. I have raced it at many local club level races and it did great. I was the only screwup...LOL

Viper has 3 different 550 motors both aimed at 2 different markets.

First is the VST-XL and the VST-L Motors. These are SENSORED motors made to work with the VTX10R esc that Viper offers. Both are primarily aimed at the 4wd SCT racing market, with the difference between the two being overall length. The VST-L is 68mm long and is made in 6.0 and 5.0 turn configurations, and it's ideal for the SC10 4x4 with it's short length (no chassis mod required to fit). The VST-XL is 73mm long and is available in 4.5 and 5.5 turn configurations. Both are 2-Pole designs (ROAR does not allow 550 sized 4-Pole motors). Both designs are MORE than enough power for even the heaviest 4wd SCT truck. I am running the VST-4.5XL in my SCT-e with a 14T pinion and I have the punch on the VTX10R set at 20% to keep the truck drivable. The VST-XL would be very similar to the SCX4 platform.

The 3rd 550 motor that Viper builds is the VX4 series SENSORLESS motors that come with the Copperhead ESC Combos. Available in 4500kv and 5150kv. These combos are aimed to fill a "recreational" racer's need for a simple, easy to drive, simple design that has allot of performance for back-yard racing/bashing with some club-level racing. Both motors are 4-Pole design, so are not ROAR legal at your ROAR sanctioned events.

Though the Copperhead systems are more than capable of racing at any level, their main market was aimed at the club level and bashing. Though both systems are sensorless, allot of R&D was done to make the system very smooth and very drivable vs. other sensorless designs out there. To be honest, I have started using the 3900kv (the 540 version) in my 2wd SCT and it is pretty much impossible to tell that the system is senseless. Best value in the market IMO. That much power and drivability for a cost of less than $150.

The Tekin PRO4 motors are 540 sized, 4-Pole rotor, sensored motors, and currently Viper does not make a motor in this configuration. Though ROAR has put these motors on the "approved" motor list for 2012, there is still no official rule saying that 540 4-Pole design motors will be legal for racing. Viper is focused on using the 550 motors that we currently make with our 1/10th scale speed controls which are ROAR approved and provide exceptional performance.

I dunno, on mine as soon as I plug in the Pc-Link I get a "USB0" under the ports.
Just got time to do this now. All my USB devices look ok.

Jamie, this evening I will see if I can record a coherent video on my phone of me hooking up one of my esc's via the usb link, and connecting the software so you can see what it looks like when it is connected.

That would be great Billy.

I have got it to work before. I flashed both of my ESCs from A16 to A23. It just doesn't seem to want to work this time.

When I plug my digital camera in, I have no problems uploading pics to my PC.
