Not taking anything away from the Castle, I ran it for 6mths and never a problem. great little motor that should get more respect.

With that said....I'm staying with the Viper.
I run that castle combo and am pretty happy with it, but could use a little more top end, motor has plenty of grunt for my SC10 4x4. Are you talking about the 540 can or one of the 550 cans? Not interested in going to a 550 motor, but am interested in the 3900kv 540, IF it has a little more top end, no less grunt, and is that much smoother, may be the one to get.

Still no luck.

I get the same flashing red light when I plug into my comp. My computer makes the "bing/bong" when I plug in and unplug the Viper PC link cable.

I am still only getting COM1 and COM3 as options in the drop down. No USB option at all. I had trouble with this the first time I tried to use it. I was getting USB options but not USB0 options. Turned out that I had not fully plugged the two halvs of the PC link cable together. That is not the case this time. I'm not even getting USB options. I'm getting really frustrated with the whole process.

Jamie, I would be more than happy to send you my cable. You can use it and send it back if it's the cable. I'm lost on this one, been thinking about it since you posted. I even tried to mess with mine and see if I could get it not to recognize.
I'm at the RCPro race this weekend, but can send it if you want when I get back.

Thanks for the offer, but if it turns out to be 100% a cable problem I will be sending mine back to Viper. I have only used it once.

There must be some tech wizards on here............

Maybe try it on a different computer? That might reveal some sort of clue.

Hi everyone,
I just bought a vtx10r+orca RX2 10.5T motor for my 1/10 touring. I'm abit confuse of the start rpm and the end rpm setting. Can any expert help me what is the ideal esc setting for my local track. I need punch cause it has many tight turns and I need high speed cause the straight line is about 140 feet. Any suggest wud be appreciate

That is kind of a loaded question, but I can do the best I can to explain what the two settings do.

Both settings are associated with the Acceleration Boost settings in the VTX series speed controls.

For example, if your settings were:

Acceleration Boost Max Advance Timing: 30 Deg
Start RPM: 7500RPM
Finish RPM: 14000RPM

What these settings would do is start applying the additional timing when the motor reaches 7500RPM (it would add 1 deg of timing) and then gradually apply the 30 deg of timing once the motor reaches 14000RPM.

The relationship of the numbers will have allot to do with how the motor "feels". For Example:

Lowering the start RPM can give you more "punch" at lower rpm.

Lowering the Finish RPM so that it is close to the Start RPM will make the car feel like it has allot of "snap" in the mid range power.

Raising the Finish RPM will apply the timing more gradually and may be needed if racing on low traction surfaces.

You have to be smart and do some testing to apply how the settings feel to your car, your driving style, your motor, your gearing, traction, etc.....

Also be mindful that when applying the timing aggressively (lower RPM settings) can make it easy to overheat the ESC or motor. Remember, heat is the result of applying too much timing at too low of a RPM.

Default Warranty

I had some issues at a big race this weekend. Ran blinky for the first time is stock buggy. The motor had a bad sensor board in it and took out my ESC. I am sending it in for warranty today but I don't have my receipt. I bought the combo back in Octobet of 2011. Since i don't have my receipt will there be any issues with my warranty? How do I go about ensuring this will go thru. Looks like I will be without some electronics for a while. We will see what happens. Thanks.

I would try to contact wherever it was you bought it through and see if you can get a copy of a invoice/receipt. Something to prove the day you bought it.

The VSE Motors (the 1/8 motors on the Viper website) are currently not in production.

I believe their my be a new version coming, but priority is to work on the VTX8 at the moment.

The VTX8 is in a early prototype stage, and delivery will all hinge on how well testing goes. Too early to tell when yet.
