Switching power supplies generally run very near the edge of the safe operating area of the capacitors used in them. If the specs are off, or the cap is a bum part, they'll fry. Not always...

Soldering

Mmm..not quite. Thermal mass in this case is the same as real mass. A hotter iron that only has a few ounces of metal in the tip will have a much harder time than an iron that has 2x the actual mass...

Re: 4 or 6

Way back when, people used to race both 4 and 6 cells in 1/12 classes. Now, 4 cell is pretty much it. You'd be amazed at how fast the cars are with only ~5V to the motors...

Um...are you sure that switch is rated for 120V? It sounds more like one for automotive use, which means it's probably only spec'd to 14V.

If it is rated for 120, PM me and we'll get it working.

Did you get the AC polarity correct? Hot (aka Line or L) goes to the narrow plug, neutral (n) goes to the wide one. Make sure it's grounded.

Yup, that's the correct wiring.

You can leave the voltage adjustment as is for the most part. The supply will usually be calibrated to 12-12.5V, which is fine for RC stuff. Most chargers will...

No. The pulses that the receiver sends to the servo are very fast (~200 times faster than an ESC switches), and ferrite will round over their edges, making glitching more likely, since the pulses...

The art of using ferrite is complex. I'm not an RF guy, but I have put them in a few products, so I'll see if I can distill this a little.

Re: JR XS-3 Radio Settings for Losi XXX-S

I run mine straight up. A little trim here and there, and I keep my throttle deadband near zero, but other than that, I don't use any of the expo or other toys.
