Futaba 4PX
#1666
Ok so I've had the radio for a couple weeks now and I have to say in terms of build quality the 4px feels a bit cheap and flimsy compared to my Ko , it's very disappointing that futaba choose to have their high end surface stuff made in China I'm pretty sure the Ko was all Japan . It feels better in my hand than the Ko but the trigger slide adjustment doesn't really give you much room to play with. Installing the drop down also kinda made me feel like the radio is not at the higher end of quality in terms of build not software, again the Ko ex-1 kiy just feels really solid and well built compared to the 4px. As far as speed I have noticed no difference at all and if anything I seem to feel the ex1 has a more touchy response but that just might be me, the price and options with receivers is a nice bonus, I was concerned about size but that was a non issue as they fit better in all my cars so I'm happy with that all in all its ok but I'm a bit disappointed with the cheap feel of the radio in terms of build quality esp being a $650-$700 investment in my currency which isn't cheap but as far as feel in the hand and features I'm really happy, another issue I have is the screen seems to develop surface scratches too easily and I'll be putting a protector on to keep it clean. As mentioned above the convenience of the Ko kiy options was really good to have and its something I really took for granted now that I realise all the fiddling I had to go through just to install the drop down but it done now so that's that, looking back now I really would've preferred to just have the Ko propo repaired and kept that. Thanks to all that helped with my questions too.
Just to add one more thing when installing the drop down im not really happy with how tight the wires are pressed against the backplate and the connectors feel like they're only just resting inside one another not really snapped or locked in once again for a top of the line surface radio I don't think the build quality is there.

Does any one has a problem about the futaba 4px? today I've noticed that my 4px did not work properly like after I run one of my onroad cars in the track, I wanted to turn off my 4px transmitter but it won't turn off. And I tried to push one of the buttons but it's still not working. What I did is to disconnect the LIFE battery from the transmitter and few seconds I connect it again to the transmitter. I tried to turn it on again and it works, I don't know what's going on or happening to my 4px it's acting weird it looks like a computer that it hang's and need to reboot.

Couple things, ...ouch, you paid $650-$700 for this controller!! (I hate to say it but I paid $400 -had some online coupons).
Screen scratches, ...I kept the stock screen protector on mine ..it seems to work well and is holding up nicely after much use. You shouldn't have to touch the screen, so not sure why it would get scratched? I keep my 4px in a softly lined bag then place into a plastic tool box for transport.
Build quality, -there is an entire article on one of the popular blogs, maybe it was RC Car Action magazine or one of those, ...i can try to find it. They dropped their 4px off a roof many times and it did not break. I found my build quality to be top notch, ...everything was put together very nicely and seems very strong. I also find the quality to be really nice, the controller has a nice weight and everything seems to be very well made.
--granted this is my opinion, but wanted to voice that I am more than pleased with my controller. The fit and finish is superb in my opinion and the controller works very well. Used w/ the correct servos and receivers my cars seem much more responsive and easier to control. I love all the fine adjustments that are available, ...allowing me to really fine-tune my cars drivability.
again, this is just my opinion, not trying to dismiss your opinion. Mine was just very different than yours.

Durability Testing- You have no idea how truly hard it is for us to beat and bang on a brand new top-of-the-line radio (LOL). So yes, we dropped the 4PX from head height (about 5′) to concrete, not once, but three times, without breakage. Heck, the 4PX didn’t even spit out its batteries like most transmitters do. Remember, we dropped it so you don’t have to, you can be confident that if it does accidentally get knocked off your tailgate that it will still work afterwards.

Regarding the build quality, just wanted to say I felt the same when I first picked up my 4PX. It felt light and "cheap" at first compared to my old Magnum PCM, and I was a bit disappointed with my $550 (with tax) purchase. I think the light weight was simply deceiving though, because after using the 4PX for a few months now I can't imagine using anything else. Of course "feel in hand" is extremely subjective, but I've yet to feel any other radio that has this kind of perfect balance. I literally forget its in my hand during a race.
And I know this is completely off the subject, but every time I see the screen on another radio I want to go running and screaming back to my 4PX. Sure, its a superficial feature, but that screen sure is beautiful, and the menus are brilliantly simple IMO.
Anyway, same as eR1c, definitely not dismissing your opinion, I just hope the radio grows on you like it did for me, because I felt the same way at first.

I have a jconcepts bag for a 4pk that I've been using to store my 4px with no issues. However, I installed the wheel drop and the angle adapter and it simply doesn't fit so my question is, has anyone installed the same items I have but are using a jconcepts bag for a 4px I know the insert is different but is the bag slightly deeper to allow for the additional wheel accessories?

Did anyone experience steering issues with the 4px?
I kind of notice the steering stutters when turning left, but absolutely ok when doing right.
Kinda similar to this guy here, except he has problems both left and right...
