Thanks a bunch. Looks cool, but I dont know how it will attach to radios.

dmayhew25 10-31-2005 06:58 AM

Can someone post how to "bind" and reset the reciever. I originally didn't set one of my two cars up right and when turned off the car goes and turns to the left a bit. My other car I did right, and it does nothing until the radio is turned on. I can't find my directions to save my life. Thanks for the help guys.

keep tx off and rx off.

hold the receiver button and turn on receiver battery. should flash.

hold the tx module button and turn on transmitter, at the same time setting your fail safe position (i have it on neutral, so i dont touch the trigger). some people have it on the brake position (p.s dont use the brake position if you got reverse on your esc ;) )

let go of tx module button and the rx module should stop blinking. :tire:

Thanks for the help. All is working great now.

Thought I would share this info over here.
In the oval crowd many have been experiencing problems with units bought in the late spring to end of summer range. They will lose control and the car will stick wide open. We tried receiver packs and receiver caps and nothing is helping.

Here is the Problem:
Open up your TX module, and if you have a short black antenna I urge you to call Spektrum and ask for the longer grey wire.

Long story short, the black wire flows right over the circuit board and is causing interferance with the chips on the board reducing the range the Spektrum puts out.

The longer grey wire is routed along the side of the case to avoid the chips.
I guess this was how Spektrum designed the unit but the company building the module for them, took it upon themselves to change to the short black wire and Spektrum was not aware or if they were aware did not think it would cause a problem using the shorter wire.

The problem got so bad at the World of Hobbies in Cinncinati after 5 or so really respectable guys totaled their 4 cell mod and 19T cars, Spektrum finally sent somebody out to do some testing. They were finding the signal strength in the backshoot was really low so the Spektrum was jumping bands if you will to find something that worked..well as it did this, It forgot there was a 4 cell mod car attached at the other end, lol

I heard if you call their tech reps they know nothing of this..Maybe ask for John Adams or Sonny Brown, I hear they both know of this problem. From what I gather at the Cinnci track they handed out a bunch of the wire fixes to Eli Ezrow. He may know who to get in touch with.
One of their locals were nice enough to get me the antenna fix.
Wish I had it for last week cause my 4 cell stock car, made a B-line right into the wall and I had a rec pack in my car.

Once again this is the Transmitter module not the reciever in the car.

Spektrum Lockup

Is the fix just to reroute the antenna or is a longer antenna needed??? I took apart both of my spektrum modules last night(one for m8 ant the other for helios) and found both antenna wires routed incorrectly. It was easy to reroute the antenna properly and reassemble the units. Both radios have experienced this problem. The helios unit would lock up very frequently(any minor crash). I assumed it was the reciever at first but after purchasing a second receiver experienced the same problem. Me and my son race 1/12 19t on carpet and will be using both radios this weekend. I will post results after Sundays race.

Mine was routed the wrong way too but I had no problems with it on the track. After taking it apart to check, I decided to paint it black and rerouted the wire to the top. No cutting or adding wire. It was long enough. Still works great!

Well according to Spektrum annoucement some radio require a new cable:
"Please return to Spektrum for service. In the case of Futaba Hitec modules, a longer antenna wire will be needed"

I have the same issue, M8/11 module with wire over the board. So for an M8/11 module can I re-route the black antenna wire myself ? or do I need to send it for servicing ?

ChrisP 11-05-2005 08:35 AM

They recommend you send it in for servicing.....although I don't see why...they just don't want anyone messing with it due to warranty concerns....and yet, by the same token, in order to see if it's required they ask you to open up your module...ridiculous if you ask me.

I tried to get them to sell me just the antenna assembly witht he longer wire formy 3PK so I could do the swap myself and they won't sell it...period...

Unfortunately, I'm in Canada and have switched my entire system over to DSM, so I'll have to use my backup radio for basically a month, once you factor in customs, shipping, repair time, etc...

Apparently they'll have people at major races, like Cleveland, but won't be doing the fix on-site according to the tech support guy I was talking to....silly question here, but if you're sending people to a major race and they can't/won't fix a known problem on site...what's the point of having them there at all, especially when this problem is announced close enough tot he race that racers would possibly not have time to get their modules shipped to service, have the work done, and be returned in time to travel to the race.

Horizon needs to take a SERIOUS look at how they set their service policies.

I have the dx3 spectrum radio (not module) and I have the roll over lock out problem in my touring car. Running a cyclone (6v 3a bec) and the original small cap, analog servo, personal transponder. Adding 800 uf cap "stutter stoper" to the reciever made it a most of the time it locks out problem instead of all the time. A rx pack, 160 mah 5 cell fixes the problem, but gets pulled down pretty quick by the spectrum, only one heat per charge. Adding a 1000 uf cap and the stutter stopper worked pretty good but yuck! 3 caps!!
I called horizon since e-mails were just getting the "we know of no problems" answer and talked to a teck who wanted to shake my rx to see if anything was loose......... scarry. They promised a 5 day turn around????
I looked inside and find a long grey wire feeding the antenna that was laying over a part of the board with an amp and some caps. the wire had a pinch or iron melt on it !! I have re routed the wire, and things seem ok but I have not rolled since, maybe this week we'l see, Using only 1 big cap now (all done deliberatly and repeatedly traction rolling after stressed arms broke in the main and expensive mail order parts!)

Wish I hadnt sold my old radio!

From what i understand from Spektrum, this problem has nothing to do with the reciever right? Well how come it reacts differently per receiver? I had an older spek rec which i put in my mod car, and when my new spek helios setup arrived, i put the new rec in my stock car. At the big race i went to last weekend, the mod car never faultered, yet the stock car with the new receiver would switch off after only a slight tap on a board! This infuriated me. Totally clean race, leading by a lap, and i rub a board and the car stops. I borrowed a friends older spek rec, and it solved the problem!!!!! I dont get it! I havent stripped my module down yet, but this is the first time (my second spek setup) Ive ever found problems with the system. Expecting customers to send items in for repair isnt good enough. They should be sent in for immediate replacment. I for one will NOT wait for a manufacturing fault to be fixed. Im going to chec out the module tonight and see whats going on. So far it looks like both my module and rec will have to go back. Ive only had this new setup for a fricken week, and they expect me to sit on the sidelines and wait for it to be fixed!

SHUT DOWN CONDITION

After having shut down problems regularly with a spektrum unit in my helios and also in a m8 unit my son uses we took apart the tx modules as per the link above. Both antenna leads were not routed correctly. We were able to reroute them and put them back together. The antenna leads werer short but still were able to be routed under the circuit board. The helios unit would previosly shut down regularly(so much so I did not finish a single heat race one sunday and I had given up on it and switched back to ch 78) I use both in 1/12 scale 19t. It now has gone one race day with several hard crashes and not shut down once. I am beginning to have confidence in it. The m8 unit would not lock up as frequently and has remained trouble free as well. Has anyone else attempeted the fix themselves and what have the results been?????

V12 11-09-2005 09:59 AM

I have a Helios with the Spektrum and just used this for one complete race weekend and one practice before, all indoor on carpet. Worked perfectly but checked the transmitter module after reading the last postings here.
I know itīs one of the latest batches and there is the short antenna wire and the wrong routing also. Question is should I leave this as it is as long as itīs working or try changing the routing of the antenna wire.
