I was wondering if someone could help me sum up all the problems experienced by some spektrum users. So far, this is what I know about:
1. response lag on tx inputs (only on carpet???)
2. temporarily going into falsafe mode after small crash
3. trims changing
4. bad bind button

Was there anything else? Is anyone actually experiencing glitching? People who find that they must use a power cap...are you sending your units in, anyway? I just received my 3pk unit yesterday.

I did experience No. 2 yesterday but it was a head on collision on a track barrier, it was actually a hard crash. Im still happy with my system though.

Who else has experienced the trim problem ?. I had the same thing happen to me today, and Re-bound the reciever, and it seemed to go away.

Is it ok to cut the antenna per the instruction down to like 3.6 inches or so? Has anyone done this? I just received my unit for my ko radio today! Also, I'd assume that since this is from teh new patch that it comes with the latest software?

I have just got my Spektrum unit and ran it with no problems on an indoor asphalt track. I cut the antanna wire to just over 4 in. from case but it doesn't extend out of tube that is about 2 in. long. Wished I didn't cut it that short. Anyways still no glitch or problems except when my battery dumped(almost all the way drained to a crawl) it seemed to stutter in and out of failsafe. I assume the one I got is the updated version(second batch).
Very happy with it so far.

Do you have any recievers for sale?

HorshamRCRacing 05-11-2005 04:44 AM

No sir, we currently have them on backorder but most of them are spoken for. Thanks.

You could check the hobbyshop that I frequent. I'm pretty sure they would have one. http://www.theworldofhobbies.com

Good luck! I just got my system back yesterday....it was sent in on 2-24-05!

Call Horizan and ask for John Adams. He next day aired mine after I explained that they had had it for over 2 months!

Oh no! I wish I would have read Imprsme's post before popping one in the mail yesterday. I guess I won't see it again until Aug or Sept.

AHA that is the filters I was looking for. No one had them and I wanted to buy some. I guess I will be ordering them. Anything to stop glitching from happening I'm into. I use the Bigger JR ones on my speedo leads and my servo leads. People are like do you need those for since you have a Spektrum but I was like I had glitching before and this is just a precaution. Not like they weigh really anything.:D

Same here...I put it on "just in case (fill in the blank) happens". The Much More one is much smaller and skinnier than the ones I tried to buy locally a while ago...btw, they come two to a pack.

The failsafe after a crash issue is due to momentary power loss....

The TRX has to reinitialise, so it goes to the default failsafe position...

Make sure you have good connections

would the spektrum work with the new M11?

thepitcrew 05-16-2005 12:07 PM

I'm an engineer, and used to design power systems. I'm waiting for my spektrum unit to arrive. The addition of the capacitor to fix what sounds like oscillations in power seems like a classic stability problem for the power circuit in the receiver. The FET's banging on and off in the digital servo's can make a a very spikey load current profile. I believe the receiver has it's own boost circuit to allow a wide input voltage to run the receiver. If the boost supply is incorrectly compensated or has too little output filtering, then the supply voltage will oscillate.

A crash would cause a similar instance in that extremely high current spikes at the servo or motor could also cause stability issues. This could be as simple as changing a small chip capacitor value in the receiver. I once had a similar problem on a production run where the vendor that did the manufacturing installed the wrong compensation cap and the fan noise (similar load profile to a servo) caused the supply voltage to oscillate and shutdown the power supply. Hopefully spektrum is thinking.
