A bit off topic from the current postings, I was wondering if there is a huge difference between the Pro Module Tx/Rx sets and the Original Set of Tx/Rx?

The reason I ask, I currently use a M11 with the original set of Tx/Rx on my electric TC and nitro TC. Although I had to swap out the Rx on my electric TC with the micro series to fit my BL set-up (Novak GTB...haven't had any issues with it, in relation to what was being discussed on the previous posts) and alot of my race buddies who also use the M11 have been switching over to the Futaba 3PKS 2.4ghz FASST system and said the system is quicker that the previous Tx/Rx they had especially on their nitro TC...

I've thought of doing the same as well but I have invested so much on the specktrum Rx (coz I currently have 3 cars) and spending a lot of $$$ just to switch is not my plan. I thought of just getting the Futaba Tx only & purchase the spektrum Tx/Rx set that was released ($350 - $400) or just get the Pro Module Tx/Rx set for my M11 ($140 - $180). I'm leaning towards to just get the M11 Pro Module set since I don't need to purchase another Pro series Rx coz I already have the mirco on my electric TC.

Would the upgrade to the Pro Module set for my M11 be better than my original set-up and also is it comparable to the Futaba 3PKS 2.4ghz FASST system?

Thanks for any help you guys could provide.

The main difference between the Original Spektrum Modules and Receivers and the Pro Series equipment is the latency. The Pro Series equipment has improved latency numbers when compared to the Original system. The receivers are also feature a conformal coating on the circuit boards to help make them water and fuel resistant.

Thanks for your response. :)

Additionally I was told the Pro system should be better regarding glitches. My original Spektrum don´t like when a Futaba FAST system is in use the same time. Also had some glitches lately what means steering goes to the left or there is a delay in throttle.

Spektrum Range issue

Hey guys I have a range issue with my Spektrum pro module in my 3PK, and Im using the SR3500 micro receivers. Im running the arials through tubes out of the body, and they are the recomended lengths away from other wires or objects that could interfere. Ive tried rebinding the rx and module and still the same problem. I have maybe 30-50m range glitch free, and after that it can even cut out completely.

Any advice would help otherwise I have to send it in to America from Australia and that would take me out of racing a month or 2.

Jerome

Yes and no. If anything I'd say that this is true in regards to electrostatic discharges that may cause issues but that's not true "glitching" like what we're used to dealing with. I'm surprised you had an issue with someone using a Futaba system. I was at the Tamiya Championship Series North American Finals this past weekend. That track is infamous for RF issues, glitching, etc. I also had a FAAST user (Chris Lim aka Hebiki on here) to one side of me or the other through just about every round of qualifying and the main. I used both a JR Z-1 with Pro Series module and eventually installed my DX3R in the car and never had a single glitch all weekend. Now I am not saying this isn't happening to you. My reccomendation would be to send your gear in to make sure you have the latest firmware on the receivers and module/transmitter.

Now as far as the DX3R goes, it performed flawlessly all weekend long. I ran my first three practice runs with a Prototype DX3R and it worked great. Awesome responsiveness, I was able to get things dialed in on the menu easily, overall a very plesant experience. For the last few practice runs and the first two qualifiers I did re-install my Z-1 w/Pro Series module and SR3500. The car instantly picked up an understeer tendency. Same setup; same tire/insert combo (new tires and old); same motor; same battery. I tried to dial in the chassis to get the initial steering back but eventually I reinstalled the SR3100 and DX3R for the 3rd round of qualifying. Even with a soft motor I improved upon my best run by nearly 5 seconds and unlike my previous fast run which was totally clean I had rolled the car once over a curb which cost me a second or two easily. I left the 3R installed for the remainder of the event and it felt really good. Like I mentioned I never had a glitch, signal loss, or any issues. Tamiya America really is an RF nightmare on many levels and the DX3R passed with flying colors.

Nice story, but how did you finish?

Snowy.

Qualified 12th and finished somewhere between like 14th-16th. I don't know exactly since I never looked at the boards. My motor was non-existant....I was giving up 8-10 feet every lap on the straightaway but maintaining the gap in the infield. I could have finished better but instead of blocking people I just let them go. At one point I was running 2nd or 3rd and had a pack of like 4 cars come up behind me and catch me. I just lifted, went wide for the corner, and let them go. I "could" have fought them for the position but as weak as my motor was either A) They would have run me over and caused a wreck, B) I would have slammed the door on someone and caused a wreck or C) Both A and B and someone would have had a broken car. It may not have been the "raciest" thing to do but it was the sportsmanlike thing to do. I did pick up a couple of spots to guys who crashed or had problems, but like I say I didn't want to screw up someone else's good run. I am also pretty satisified with the run since I have only raced this car three times in the last 12-months... Once at the 2006 North American Finals, once at the Tamiya Regional race in Memphis this year, and then this race weekend here. I think if I would have had a stronger motor that I could have finished between 5th-10th. I know we had down to an E-Main in the class that I ran in too, so there were a ton of people to beat out just to qualify 12th. Frankly as poor as the motor performed I was relieved that I didn't make the A-Main. I would have just been in the way and would have felt really bad if I would have caused a problem for someone else.

I did a search on this thread and didn't find what I wanted to know, so here goes...

I have recently added a LOSI Slider to my racing stable... Visually, it seems pretty clear that the radio gear (labeled "LOSI 2.4Ghz DSM") is pretty obviously Spektrum gear... But I never like to assume...

Is the receiver, for example totally compatible with standard Spektrum gear (such as the DX3.0 transmitter)...?

I read on the Slider thread that someone successfully bound their Slider to their (I think) Spektrum Pro equipped Helios, so I'm thinking the answer to your question is "yes".

Yes, you can bind the receiver to Spektrum Radios and Modules.

Forgive me if that has been covered before but here goes. I have not raced in over a year and a half. When I stopped racing I had a Spektrum module and receiver in my M8 radio. It had just come out a few months prior. Now that I am going to race again, I want to run my M8 and Spektrum gear that I have. I have seen that they have a pro-series out now. Is the pro-series receiver compatible with my original module in my tx? Also, can I get a micro receiver for my TC and bind it to my original tx module or will this cause problems?

Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Yes, the Pro Series gear is totally compatible with the Original series. One thing to note is that you will not get the full advantage of the Pro Series unless you're using a Pro Series Module and Receiver. You'll see approximately 1/2 the improvement in latency. Spektrum’s first DSM system added an additional 5.6m/s of latency into the total system latency of a radio and its module. Again, we’re speaking in terms of thousandths of a second here. With the Pro Series Receiver and an Original Module, the latency will be approximately 4.3m/s, where a full Pro Series system is only 3m/s. Hope that answers your question for you.

It does, thank you very much for the insight.

im thinking about getting a Nomadio React radio, just wondering if the spectrum receivers work with it?

Kraig 09-01-2007 08:04 PM

Does anyone know if the new Spektrum DX3R radio due out soon can be switched over so left handed drivers can use it?
