Question,
I was having a few concerns with a spektrum dsm3000, that I have paired up with a novak GTB and a 5.5 motor. Every once in a while the receiver will shut down under hard accel. You've probably heard that before right? My question is, will the other dsm modules correct this low voltage problem? or is it a battery concern? |

If your receiver is going into failsafe under brief high drain then the capacitor may help as its purpose is to supply the receiver with needed voltage during high drain periods that lower the BEC voltage.

Alltapdout -- John S. gave you the answer...(Hi John...)
Some esc's are a bit weak in the BEC circuits -- they are lower in voltage in general or they cannot maintain the volt/ampdraw capability when the motor draws high current levels. Using the GTB I haven't had any problems in my brushless rigs (13.5 and 4300), but with an old LRP V7.1/brushed setup, even a 19t motor can cause problems... One additional factor can be the steering servo -- some newer digital servos can really draw juice and add to the problem... The receiver can't help it -- it either gets the juice or it doesn't. The capacitor rig smooths out the spikes and carries it over the voltage drops (sort of like a UPS for a computer to cope with brownouts)... |
Yeah, see thats the thing. I've placed a novak cap on the radio already, not sure if I needed a spektrum cap? Never made any difference, when I come up for a jump, and nail it, the car receiver dies, car goes dead.

Antenna wire shortening on the SM3001rx, saw a tip once, but cant seem to be able to find it again.
Any help please. Thanks, Fred |
Its the antenna wire route. Spektrum wants you to route the antenna under the chip board, not over it. The tip is on there web site. Have already tried that one too. I did read though, that spektrum will take receiver back if it still glitches for a software upgrade? or replacement!! That might be what I have to do @ this point...Any other suggestions?

2 Questions:
1) I have a Futaba 3PM 2.4ghz Spektrum radio and it comes with a Futaba 603FF receiver...what's the difference between the Futaba FAST 603FF receiver that comes with the Spektrum 3PM, vs the 603FS receiver? They look the same and would like to know if one is faster than the other? Will my 603FF perform just as fast as the FS version?

Im thinking of getting a Futaba 3PKS with the Spektrum PRO HRS module for it. However, I dont know which receiver to get...the SR3000HRS receiver or the micro receiver. I want the fastest combo for my 3PKS on HRS mode, and that's why I'll need the HRS module, but I dont know if the micro receiver is compatible with the Spektrum 3PKS HRS module or not? If it is, which combo will be the faster one: the HRS module and the SR3000HRS pro receiver for the 3PKS in HRS mode, or the SR3000HRS module with the Spektrum micro?

I have a question on binding the small pro receiver. I think this was explained on an addendum sheet and not included with my manual. I put in the little jumper plug, turn on the car, Turn on the radio with button pushed and brakes applied. Am I supposed to get a green light at the receiver. I do not.

The receiver is definitly over a year old now! more like 3 I picked up a dx 2.0 as soon as I seen them in LHS. Its a dsm3000. I run it in a xxx-4 with a 5 turn. I called Novak and they told me it was a battery issue, I didn't really think that cuz I was using lipo's, and it did it on a full charge. Then the battery company told me it was the speed control. . Then I went to the LHS the owner said he has only seen it happen once, and recommended that I put a Glitch buster on the receiver. So I did that, Plus theres not a whole lotta room under the hood on a XXX!!! Plus what speed control needs 2 huge capacitors? I'll give it another shot later this week, but if it still stalls out, I may have to call spektrum about software.

I want to race with the 3PM FAST radio and 603FF Fast receiver and hope to have equipment that's just as fast as the drivers running their 3PKS w/ FAST module and 603FS receivers...will my equipment be on par with them? Or will the 3PKS be slightly faster due to the 3PKS having a faster processor than the 3PM 2.4ghz processor, if that has anything to do with it? 3PM 2.4GHz FASST™ is as fast, to my knowledge, as an 3PK/3VC radio with a Futaba 2.4GHz FASST™ module and R603FS or FF receiver. R603FF and R603FS are basically the same receiver (same speed) but the R603FF is slightly cheaper then R603FS. R603FS has two dual-diversity antennas (one inside and one short external). The new R603FF has only the external antenna so its not dual diversity. |
Hey guys i've been having a really strange problem with my spektrum receiver. It was working all fine last night and then today i just wanted to run the car, but now my receiver seemed to just gave up on me .
When i turn it on, the green LED would just blink on once and then just go out completely. I tried connecting to two different ESCs and still the same problem. I tried with and without capcitors and i even tried a separate battery pack...all the same, the light just blinks on once then goes out and stays out. I've never had a single problem with it until now :( I can't even rebind, becuase my receiver just doesn't stay on :( Btw does opening and cleaning the receiver out void warranty? there is a quite a bit of junk inside, but i don't want to open and clean unless i'm sure its OK |
Fixed it now:sweat: After about 20 retries of fitting the wires together... its just suddenly worked :weird:

Found the article in the owners manual, shorten ant wire to 3.6". Amazing what you find in the manual, usually never opened until all else fails. :D |

Changing the steering wheel
I am looking to purchase the dx3r, but i really dont like so much the steering wheel looking, could anybody tell if it is changeable to other brands optional wheel with its own wheel adapter or from other manufacturers, for example: sanwa, ko or futaba, but with some modification?
Thanks! |
Gary--I know there have been several updates and fixes for the original 3000-series modules and receivers but has Spektrum/Horizon ever offered to upgrade these earlier units to "Pro" spec? Is that even possible?
