Digital Servo's

Thanks Gary for the info'

Anytime Tony.

I ran again yesterday with my Sportwerks Mayhem ST. The SR3500 worked perfectly again. Now if the mecahanic would just learn how to use Loc-Tite I would have had a top 3 finish. Sigh

Spektrum DX2 Losing Signal

I just got a new Spektrum DX2 from my LHS. When I tried it out last night, I got it to bind fine. However sitting there the receiver would lose the signal periodically like a brief glitch, sometimes for several seconds. At first it just seemed like the servo was binding. It seemed to get worse after maybe 30 seconds. I tried multiple battery packs, same issues. The servo isn't binding. My old 2PH AM radio works with the servo.

Running Novak Brushless GTB speed control in brushed mode and a digital Hitec 6965 servo. Had the problem regardless of throttle position. The "glitch" affected the throttle and steering. When it "glitched" I would see the receiver light go out.

I kind of wonder if it has something to do with BEC and the GTB and servo, maybe a power limit or power draw problem?

Anyone ever seen this? I'm calling Horizon but they weren't open yet, will advise what they say.

Also the wheel tension screw fell out or broke or something down inside the transmitter. I wasn't abusing it just adjusting and it broke. I didn't twist hard or anything.

Been really looking forward to a better radio for our state championships and I hope they can get this fixed soon. I do know several locals using DX3 that love it so I figure it will work out oK. I'll post again when it's resolved.

I ran a GTB with a JR 8800S Digital Servo in my JRX-S leading up to and at the Novak Race without any issues. I never experienced any problems related to the GTB, so I don't think that's the issue. Double check that everything is properly insulated and such. You may want to try the Voltage Protector (SPM1600) just to see if that clears things up though.

On the tension screw issue, definately contact product support.

Ahhh the DX3, Yea I've had the loss of signal or glitch problem too, several times, once it was on my nitro MTX3 and it was a run away. Scared the heck out of me as it was in a parking lot race. BUT what I found out for me was that it happend only when my transmitter batteries were below about 10.6 volts. Which was plenty of juice in my JR XS3. So now I always put in new batteries a 11 volts and have NEVER had that problem again. Good luck.

One small draw back, there is no exponential settings.

Spektrum DX2 Glitch Follow-up

Thanks for advice re: 10.6 V minimum. My batteries were 10.8 - 10.6 range. Book says 9.0 is low limit but I'll go home and try fresh ones in transmitter. Maybe that's why it got worse over time as I was sitting there scratching my head?

Talked with Horizon Tech Support. The rep said it sounded like receiver needed repaired. Bad news: I have to pay shipping to them and wait 7-10 business days for repair plus shipping time to and from... so no new radio for the state race if I ship it out. So, I'll try new batteries first, then if that works, ship it out later for repair on the tension screw. I'll also talk to my LHS to see if they can help speed me to get Horizon to speed up the process.

I'll try to post final results what happened.

Update on Dx2 Glitching

Ran practice this evening. Replaced transmitter batteries with dry cells, got 12.5 V to start down to about 12.0 during runs. Only time I saw the receiver light go out was when the car battery had already dumped. Seemed to run very well including areas that had glitched previously on my old AM radio.

LHS will send unit back when I am ready to get the wheel tension issue fixed and also will ask them to check receiver issue at that time. Otherwise I will try to run it through our big race. Will try to update when final resolution is made with Horizon.

Yes do update after your big race. Good luck Swopmike

serious drawback. Only reason I havn't sold my dx3 is because I can't choose among the 3PK, M11, and EX-10

I was wondering if the new micro receiver (with also a shorter antenna lead) has the same 'signal strength' as the its big brother. I mean: can I drive equal far away without signal problems with the smal receiver as with the big one?

Thanks in advance.

RCGaryK 06-21-2006 12:27 PM

I have not had any signal range issues with the SR3500 Micro Receiver. Everywhere my SR3000 works, the SR3500 works exactly the same...just faster :D

Will you install a Spektrum module when you decide?
