I take it 100% reverse isn't powerful enough either ... I know that from what I have seen of there reverse the few times I used it on the GT line, at times it would detect "brake" even though it should have found reverse on the second back push of the trigger, if my understanding of how it works make sense.
Curious if it could be that at some level we can't easily see, it is detecting "Forward" after we do "Brake", hence, instead of going in "Reverse", it thinks we should do "Brake" again? |
no prob! I rarely use reverse so take that with a grain of salt. I just noticed it when mainly playing with the vehicle my daughter was using which for her reverse is a must as the old man isn't able to do wind sprints to get her vehicle nowadays!

I have the Reventon Pro 17.5R kit. comes with 120amp esc and motor. I flashed the esc to allow reverse, yet reverse is very weak and sometimes doesn't work. any idea why this happens? running a version 3. with a 2s lipo on a b4.1 worlds edition.
my initial thought was the controller. its a skyfly gt3b. the controller works great for reverse in all my other cars/boats. (orion r10 pro, toro micro esc) Something else to look at is your dead band. If it is to narrow the ESC might not see true neutral every time. I ran into this with my SAV2.

Helping a buddy pick out a new system for his e-buggy. I am digging my Reventon Pro and am trying to find some Speed Passion stuff for him since he's being budgeted by the old lady. Is the Silver Arrow v2 the newest and greatest? Anyone have any idea where I can find one in stock? Also what motor would we be looking at. Some are listed in "turns" and some "Kv". Which is the newer version etc.. Thanks gents !
That said, an experienced racer will find some faults. The SAV2 is not as efficient as the RX8. This causes the motor to run a little hotter (only 15* difference, but it is hotter consistantly). I don't get quite as much acceleration or top speed either. All of these will only affect the top end racer who is looking for that tenth on his lap time. For mere mortals on a budget, the SAV2 is SO worth the money. Personally I hope SP comes out with a Reventon 8 or another high end 4s-6s to compete directly with the RX8. |
lol right now I need to turn down the punch on my SAV2 as with the Tekin 2050Kv motor its very beastly lol.
I wonder what htey have in store too. I am curious as to what happened to the Cirtix R8 as it was supposed to be pretty good. Maybe it will return in some other form? Heck, on the SAV2, I personally would like them to just use a plug setup for the various wires versus having them come out of the sides of the case. This would make it "fit" in more areas as because now, you need to factory in the wiring poking out of the case! lol |

For reference when I was running an RX8 I used no boost/timing/advance or any other power adding settings. I had the current limiter @ 80. The EPA on my transmitter would vari from 75-90 depending on the traction (almost always at 85). I was as fast as any other buggy down the straight & topped out in about 50' (about 75' of straight). Acceleration was a touch slower than the really edgy buggies of the fast guys. After a 10 minute main I would temp the motor at 110*-120* & the ESC at 110*. To start out I set the SAV2 to no timing, 8 on the drrs. It was a little smoother, but no where near as quick out of the hole. On long straights I was a little slower & still accelerating when I would get on the brakes. On short shoots between corners it was dramatically lacking in speed. After a 10 minute main I temped at 130*-145* motor & 120* ESC. I played around with the settings & ended up with 16* (+/- I can't remember what the exact oddball number was) timing & 5 on the drrs. I was still lacking on the bottom end, but the thing was so smooth I would make up the speed in about 30' & hit a higher top end at the same 50' on the long straight. The draw back (the reason I didn't add more timing) was heat. After 10 minutes the motor temped at 150*-175* & the ESC @ 160*-170*. I didn't want to push the temps any farther than that. I managed to fry (completely my fault doing stupid stuff with the BEC) my SAV2 & have the $ right now, so I'm going to try the forth coming RX8 gen2. There are 3 other guys at the track running them who won't trade them for anything. One guy had gotten his SAV2 while waiting on his RX8 to get repaired. When his RX8 came back he kept the SAV2. He liked his SAV2 so much that when another buggy impaled his ESC & he had to switch to his RX8 (that had come back from service) to finish his race day, he ordered another SAV2. The good thing about getting the RX8 is if I don't like it any more than the gen1 I can sell it quick & buy 2 SAV2's with $ left over:lol: |
lol, that is so true on cost. SP should really keep it around and promote it. Being able to actually run 1/8 that cheaply esc wise is awesome.

Been looking at the rev pro and now with current sale I am going to get one. Looking at running in spare B4 I have. Just wondering how the motors stack up. Are they revvy or torquey? Is an 8.5 V3 comparable to an 8.5 reedy sonic? Is the out of the box firmware the way to go or should I be loading something different? Starting place for gearing? Thanks.

I run a Rev Pro in my B4.2 with SP V3 8.5.
I use the MOD 2 profile, geared 78/23 (8.82FDR). Haven't run the Reedy, so can't give you a comparison. |

In my b4 I run the rev r with the sp v3 8.5. I gear 26/78. It is BLISTERING fast, but smooth as butter so I can use that speed when there is any kind of traction. I can't compare it to a reedy, but I can tell you it has more torque than an lrp x12 8.5, is much smoother, & runs SUBSTANTIALLY cooler at the same gearing. One problem I have had is the sensor wire falls out rather easily. It doesn't do it every run, but it does happen often enough to mention it. It is actually still smooth sensorless so I haven't bothered to fix it yet, but one of these days I'll put a clip on it or zip tie it to fix it & everything will be peachy with this combo. One other thing I have heard people mention is that the brakes are kind of weak. I have experienced that exact opposite. The brakes are smooth & powerfull. I set the brakes at full on the ESC & control the braking force from the transmitter by adjusting the EPA. I set my EPA anywhere from 30%-45% & I adjust it everyrun during practice laps before the race starts. I set it such that when I'm at full speed & slam it to full brakes the buggy decelerates & then locks slightly at the end as the weight gets fully transfered. |
I have an X12 7.5 in my B44 and I feel it has the most torque of any other 7.5 i have tried so I am surprised to hear that about the SP.

thinking about getting one for a wheeler. I want to run a reedy sonic mach 2 6.5 or a reedy sonic mach 1 6.5. or maybe a boosted 7.5 I haven't decided yet. I heard somewhere that the speed passion doesn't like the reedy sonic motors too much?

As far as I know the problems are with viper, lrp, & tekin gens. 2cansam races @ my track & I'm almost positive he just put a reedy in his b44 with a rev pro. Send him an IM & ask him about it. |
What does everyone think of the older competition v3 motors? For $32 on the US store website I was thinking of picking up a couple. Just don't know if they are outclassed by current motors on the market.

If you are going to run blinky 17.5, you may want a few things with the motor that basically get it similar in price to other ones configured out of the box. The big thing being the sensor unit for adjusting timing. I hope that if they release a new motor in the future, they : - Make a sensor unit that will give you the full timing range on 1 board - Provide high torque rotor or high RPM rotor options out of the box AND / OR - Do like novak and allow you to configure a custom motor When I asked about offroad motors, I was suggested to still look at the v3.0 versus the MMM by Solara I believe. I have the MMM 17.5 configured with the high torque 12.5 super 7 rotor and a variety of timing boards (Green right now) and I like it. |
I too went from a rx8 to a SA v2 and never went back to the tekin. Ever since then I've owned over ten of the sp escs and all have ran great with zero issues.
