I went last night to club racing here in Phoenix and ran practice then got ready for the first qualifier and one min in to qual and my losi sct 22 2.0 mm setup with a vtx10r and viper 13.5 motor just stopped. When I took the truck off the track I checked the temp on the motor and it was 140ish. On the truck I run a 84 spur gear and a 22 pinion with 10 degrees can timing and the 3rd profile loaded on the esc. I swapped out the sensor cable and that didn't fix the problem so I changed the motor to a new black edition motor 13.5 turn motor I just got. The second qual I ran same set up and it was great but when I pull the truck off it was 190 degrees which I know that is way to high. So I changed the profile in the esc to blinky so I had no boost from the esc and put the can timing to 30 and ran the main like that and after the main it still temped at 190. Is there something wrong or should I really change the gearing or do you think there is a bearing hanging up or what?

22/84 should not run 190. check your mesh and check for binding. how was your traction and slipper? excessive slip of the slipper or tires can raise temps. SRS is pretty high bite, so I doubt your tires were slipping.
if I recall correctly, the new black edition "spec" motors use a 12.3 rotor right?
wonder if that includes the 13.5 as a "spec" motor and hence I would think the motor would be more RPMish if using a 12.3 rotor.
Did the motor come with any gearing ratio suggestions?
When running in blinky mode, did you happen to notice where the vehicle was topping out down the longest straight?

Hey all, strongly considering getting the Viper Copperhead VXR.45 motor/esc combo for my 4x4 Slash which is brand new. I've another Slash that I've raced with the Castle 3800/MMP combo and like it a lot. I'm looking for more insight on this Viper setup...... I really like the price too...... anyone have extensive use with this setup in a Slash 4x4 ? Thanks guys.
I have not read anywhere that it has that protection, as in general any esc should never be plugged in the wrong way. I guess if you really worry you could use plugs instead of bullets.
No - none of the competition units I have ever seen do -- too bulking to put into the system. Novak did it years ago with a brushed esc, but I still fried some soldering wires on batteries backward.

Would need some more information - when it stopped were there any error lights flashing to show overheat? Was the 190 measured right after the main, how long was the run? What other settings were using with Profile 3, it can make a difference. As mentioned, any issues with drive train, gear mesh etc. All the BE motors are tested before delivery (its how we put the KV numbers on the box, so if there was an issue with a short or something, we would find it then. You can PM me the settings or email me at [email protected] if its easier.
