As with any system, gear it right, keep an eye on the temperature of the motor and speed control - it will be a great upgrade.
Thanks for the reply. Also meant to ask about pinion choice, since I currently don't have any 5mm ones. What would you recommend picking up ? 13, 14, or 15? I'm running a 54T on my diff. Thanks again for any insight, I appreciate it.

Well I ask because I put one bullet in wrong and just barely touched the other bullet to the battery and it seems to have fried not only the ESC but also the brand new battery. I assume the vtx10r is done as well as the battery? No warranty I assume

That should not have killed the battery.

Voltage is more like a force than time related like current, so it's like putting 1000lb force on a piece of wood for a split second, it will still break the wood.

Batteries for sure do not like to be shorted, for any amount of time. I am not sure if the reverse polarity would allow for a short of the pack via the esc.

Is it possible the battery was bad? I had a local driver ask me about an issue a few months back. He put in 4 speedos and overheated all of them. We figured out the battery had a short in it. Once he used a different battery. All 4 units worked without issue. It was a 'big name' battery company. Yes it can unfortunately happen.

I still can't understand why battery manufacturers don't make the positive a 5mm bullet and the negative a 4mm built connector, would prevent this ever happening!

@Nikos,
sorry to ask for something that may have been asked before, but Im still not looking threw which C rate should be the minimum for the VTX8, will I have an advantage taking the highets possible C rate, and if I do that, how should I get loads of amps through 12 awg wires? Will I need XT 90 connectors then instead of XT 60 ? My thoughts are, that if there is one piece not big enough for maybe 150 amps, a 200 amps esc, a lipo with 65 to 130 C discharge are worthless. Wouldnt in the ral world a lipo with 5000 mah and 45 C be more then enough?

I did that last night to my orion. It is dead now. It just takes a tap. My fault for not wiring my car to make it impossible to screw up.

I'm looking for an "honest" opinion here. First off, LOVE my Viper escs and Nick is one of the best guys to deal with. So, looking to get back into 4x4 corr racing. Had a Tekno SCT410 and likely going that route again. Started with a Pro4 4600 motor which was okay but switched to a Hobbywing 4700 (545 can) and really liked the grunt this motor had over the Pro4. I'm curious if anyone has had actual experience of running a Hobbywing an then the Viper VF4 4500 and how it compares. There is a $50 or so price difference between them.

The vf4 4500 is a great motor and a SUPER value for the where they have them prices currently. I would compare them directly to the pro 4 4600. For the price difference you could really scoop up a 4000 and a 4500.

Is this for 4s or 2s?

The vtx8 is listed as a 220amp esc. Bullets are probably the best connector for high amp situations. If you are using 12awg wire high strand count means lower IR but I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes. I used deans plugs and 25$ hobby King 4s batteries in my E buggy and could genuinely say guys running 180$ high C rating packs had no real advantage.
