Would recommend staying above 9600 on Throttle Freq. Yes, lowering Punch is a great tool with 4 pole motors!!!

Why is that? ... I was going to try 2500 next run ( i was thinking i may lower temps)... Temps are around 170 at 10 mins... Its a little too smooth for my taste so i thought the solution was lowering the throttle frecuency

I have to say the little VTX10BE I have here put a big smile on my face while doing some testing on the 8.5 Viper motor I got in. Had some nice pop to it, very controllable. quite happy with it. Makes me want to find a place to run this 2wd buggy :)

Question, on the Viper do we have anything like Antilock braking?

segreda - motors need to be run at certain freq levels based on the power they provide. Higher the power, higher the freq. Just like over gearing or under gearing, you can generate extra heat because freq is too low as well. Depending on driving style, gearing and track -- 170 after 10 minutes isn't horrible. Obviously if you can keep the speed and run cooler its always better.

Cain - Thanks Cain, sorry to be so biased but we really have a hidden gem with the VTX series, I have tried other people's cars, other esc companies are smoother than they used to be, but not like what we have.

As for anti lock brakes - its not a programming feature. It will work if your radio has it, you can fine tune Brake Strength and Brake Freq to keep locking down, but the pulsing required for the anti lock is more radio related.

yeah I was quite happy with it. I was initially toying with just getting rid of 1/10 but darn it your gear made me keep it lol.

Right now I am debating grabbing another VTX to drop in another vehicle too. The GT2.0 Pro has been a soldier for me, but its nice to keep everything all in the family :)

What is the best size pinion for the copperhead-r 4500kv combination for four wheel short course truck. Tracks range from 33 yards to 50 yards?

Cain, did you find your Viper 8.5 to be slower than other 8.5's? I could no longer make the long double with the Viper combo in my 10th scale buggy. I had to gear up, wayyyyy up. Three teeth small spur and four pinion sizes up. To my surprise it was still ice cold (115-120 after a full pack) at this gearing which floored me. Very happy with it after a couple pinion orders lol.

Anyway I believe the viper in comparison to the 8.5 Speed Passion and Novak ballistics I have had is just a more torquey motor and really needs to be geared up.

Cain and Devin - The VST motors were designed quite a while ago, and as Cain noted, more torque than RPM based, so gearing cam be different. But that might all change soon..... :sneaky:

Keith- sorry its hard to give an answer on that type of information - would atleast need to know the type of truck. Spur gear in the truck. Are you just trying to run in a straight line, is it a track? More information please - then we can try and make an educated guess.

The truck is a Caster Racing sct called Rapture it has a 46t center spur gear and yes I will running on the track. It is a 4 wheel drive short course truck

I checked my setting on the vtx8 after i saw nicks post and i am indeed running 19000hz on the and 70 on punch with the 1900 motor.

on my 10th scales i am running 3200hz and 60 punch for 2wd.

Can you run a 7700 kv 4 pole motor with a vtx10r?
Wanting to run it in a 2wd sct on dirt oval.

If its sensored, yes. ##Edit- Yes on VTX8. I read too fast and didnt notice it was for vtx10R. I wouldn't try it on vtx10R

On a side note, I raced a lot of dirt oval with 2wd sct, always top 2 in stacked field....so my advice is solid on the subject. That's way too much motor, and you will get killed on the track. There is a reason the pros don't run these oddball set ups...they are terrible. Run a 10.5 motor, and I guarantee its faster on the track...shoot...a 17.5 would be. Been there, tried everything, save yourself the time, money and effort...do what the pros do. Just don't think because they run a 6.5 that you will be fast with one though.
