What are your temps? I ran the same setup with the punch turned down to 75 in a tekno sct410 with a heatsink fan with no temp issues?
|
Just ran it with a 13 tooth and it got to 150 after about 5 min. This is about the 5th time to run this motor and I stopped each time when it got hot. Esc is a Novak havoc pro turned all the way down. My son's truck runs the viper vx4r.45 with a 14 tooth and has no issues. May just pick another one up and get rid of this.

Yea, that Vx4r motor is a 4 pole, it generates more power and is able to pull a 4wd better. The 2 pole VSTXL you have was used in 4wd SC when the trucks were all lightweight like the AE, Slash and Durango. As the vehicles got heavier, better to have a 4 pole motor for overall performance. A 2 pole motor can be used on some smaller tracks, but if your track has any time of longer straights, its possible that it makes the 2 pole motor work too hard.

VF4's have been getting great reviews from those using them -- from one of our team drivers on FB:
Another great outing with the 4WD... TQ and Win with the VTX8 and VF4.... This setup is unreal!! Thank you Viper for the support! Definitely catching notice up here in the Northeast... Was also able to help out 2 newer racers with their VTX8's today and both were very very pleased. Should be a great summer with this one for sure. A64 - Profile 5 - Brake @ 80% - Brake Freq 16000 - Linear Curve - Drag Brake 5% - Throttle Freq 12000 - Throttle Punch 75% - Dead Band Middle - Run Mode Race Blinky - Motor Dir Normal - SBEC 6.5 - Forward Power 100% - Auto Off Disabled - Battery Cutoff 6.0V - ESC and Motor Temps disabled - 41 MIP Spur - 12T Pinion - SMC 7200 70C with Traxxas. Fairly large track, loose low grip dusty conditions with decent size jumps. Temps 134-141 after 7 mins with fan installed on motor. ESC and Motor Temps disabled:::: Do you do this to your 1.8 motor settings? |

boborc - yep - sent you reply.
motorman - I will use protection settings during practice (mostly to make sure I don't run too long), but for racing I typically turn it off. Other thing to remember is that with the sensor reading the inside temperature, its gets pretty hot in there. 170 on the outside could be 250-270 on the inside. Which is the upper range of the cut off feature. |

I get this when I try to calibrate the radio Esc.. What do I change to fix this
Everything is 100 on my futaba 4pksr epa Made sure the radio is c2 for digital servo. |
I got a chance to run my new Viper VTX8/VF82.1 and Xpert servo this weekend in my Kyosho MP9/Tekno V4 and it was amazing! Smooth power delivery, plenty of punch and spot-on steering. I'm slowly chipping away at the other brand loyal up here...

Hey guys, I'm loving my Viper system,! My origanal setup for 17.5 blinky that Bob Barry set me up with works awesome. Well blinky class got moved to another night and I can't make it there. So I will be in pro2 SCT, will the 17.5 boosted profile help me or do I need a faster motor? I'm running VTX10 BE. with 17.5 VST on profile 1 in a 22SCT
Thanks, Ryan |

Thanks, Ryan - gear down 1 or 2 teeth - add 5* acceleration boost - start RPM 5000, end rpm 12000 - top end timing 5* - slew rate 3 - physical timing on motor 35 Run truck, see how it accelerates. need more off the bottom, lower start rpm slightly, monitor temps close, like after the first minute or two at first til you understand where it is. Need little more straight line speed, raise top end timing up slightly. You really don't want all the timing (acceleration, top end and physical motor) to be at or over 60. If you have to raise the acceleration and top end timing to like 15* to get the speed you want -- go to a faster motor - it will be more efficient and less wear and tear on the motor. |

Everything is 100 on my futaba 4pksr epa Made sure the radio is c2 for digital servo. Pullback hit the button Push forward hit button Let go all lights do its thing Green like flashing after I also hooked up other motor And other sensor wire. I flashed the A64, many times. Radio 10 clicks - /+ Anymore ideas. Before I send it in? Then I did the same thing to my tekno truck same 1/8 esc vtx8 and it calibrate. |
Thinking of getting a vf4 for a sc10 4x4. What rpm/kv do you recommend 4k 0r 4500. Med-large tracks. Have a 4.5 ballistic which is good but need a little more launch. Have a budget 4 pole 4800kv seemed a little overkill on the med track and is also undependable (shabby bearings keep going). The ballistic is rated 5k per kv so should I go with the higher or just a little more gear in the lower kv (slippery tracks for the most part). The large track has a 3/4 oval for the straightaway (its big). Thanks

Ryan - how do your lap times with the 17.5 match to those running modified? You can boost a 17.5 slightly, but you will not get the overall speed a lower turn motor can give you. If you are going to try it here are my suggestions:

Also whats the ETA in the VF4's I see their out of stock. See what happens when I snooze. should have gotten one a couple of weeks ago:cry:
