Here's the error codes that I'm aware of and what they mean:
Motor temperature is indicated by blinking “F” and “R” LEDs.
ESC temperature is indicated by blinking “F” and “R” LEDs with
solid “N” LED.
New motor circuit protection is indicated by alternating blinking of "F" and "R"
I had alternating f&r with solid n second time. Esc wsd about 90 and motor near 140. Poped a tievrod on my first heat do ill see what happens in a little reverted back to a61 rumors are going around about a buggy a64
1st What profile are you running it in? 2nd did you happen to change the wire Guage? I had one doing the same thing. It was due to me switching to 13 gauge wire. It was switch back to the stock wiring, re-calibrated it and all is good.
Factory wires with deans, custom profile standard stuff though,no timing, lrp 550 5.0 2 pole motor med sized track dusty so some wheel spin thats about it. Ran a qualifier in a61 no problems ran great, maybe ill play one day during the week when I have time to see whats causing it. But same parameters in a61 no problems
if your running the a64 software and seeing the error code off the R(orange) and F(red) lights alternating that is a motor error warning.
It means the speed control has detected a spike coming from the motor or motor sensor that could damage the speed control. So it shuts the system down to protect the speed control from possible harm.
In our testing of failed units over the last two years, we found that a large number of failures could be related to this type of situation - when a spike from the motor or motor sensor travels back to the speed control. By putting the protection in the software, its our attempt to help make sure our customers/racers don't have failures and can help verify what electronics might be giving an issue or problem.
Possible that this can happen once - a spike after an accident, or hard contact. But if its happening multiple times. There is something else. We also had a team driver tell us he got this warning from a loose battery connection - which again could cause a large spike on the speed control.

New to viper. I have 1/8 esc. Running in my tekno sct with Tekin pro 4 4300. I bought setup, from a friend. I don't know what setting are in esc. I didn't get a card with it. Acts like a motor cog but not noisy. On a fresh battery I get one lap of full throttle. But second lap motor seems like a 4cyl engine with a miss. The longer I run the weaker it gets. Gonna pick up a pRogram card. I'm near indianapolis. Where can I get one quick? Any ideas. I unhooked steering servo and it still same on stand. I swapped a different radio and rx. Motor is near new. 803 295 9935 for any help. I tried calling viper twice today but no return call.
I'm assuming you are using the VTX8, correct? What type of battery are you using? The LVC is set using the program card and it might be set too high. The 4300's pull a lot of juice and can bump against the LVC if it's set too high. You will need either the EZLink, the ProGauge or the PCLink to adjust it. If you can find ANYONE locally that has any of these you can link it and make the adjustment fast. Wish I could help more. Good luck.
patrick - definitely need the EZLink or ProGauge to look at the settings, especially the protection settings, to see where the cut off is at. You can hekc with your local hobby shop, also visit A Main hobbies or even our own shopsite (listed in my signature below).

Another nice afternoon at the track. So much fun.
I am down to 12% punch, but it seems sluggish now. So I will start bumping it up a little here and there.
I may have something wrong with my truck that is causing the rear end to snap out like that. I drove my backup truck and it handled a ton better. SO now I am looking to see what is what.
Buzz.

It's stepping out on power? Ball diff or gear diff? If it's a gear diff, it may have too thick of a fluid in it. If its a ball diff it may be too tight or it may need to be rebuilt. 12% is REALLY low and I would imagine it would feel pretty sluggish.

Truck has a ball diff. I have a rebuild kit on the way.
I have a Tacon/hobbywing setup in my back up truck. They are the same SC10.2FT's, same bar code super soft's, almost exact same setup. Yet the back handles way better.
I was sort of surprised at how smooth the Viper is compared to the Tacon/Hobbywing. Viper I can feel each and every tiny bit of throttle. Move the throttle a 1/64th of an inch, you see the truck respond. The other setup is sort of jumpy.
So I am going to swap things around and my back up will be my main truck.

Because here are only problems listed, I would like to make a nice review to Viper RC !
I had 2 viper VTX10R's broken, 1 I don't know, but it was second hand. And 1 new one. The new one was perfectly replaced under warranty without any problems ! Thumbs up for that ! I drove with a HW v3.1 the time before I getted my new Viper. I was not sure if I would install my viper again that I got from warranty. I did it, and it is such a big difference in feeling. You don't feel it when you drive a HW, but you feel it when you switch between ESC's. The viper is : Smoother, more accurate, beter protected and alot nicer looking
I just love how small it is, how simple it is, and how correct it is. The feeling is awesome. They get a bit hot in a 4WD 1/10th buggy, so I pasted a little fan on top with double sided tape, no problems at all ! Only 45 degrees Celsius!!! If you are thinking buying an esc, try this one out, really ! You wil NOT be dissapointed ;-) Now I'm really working hard on driving with the Viper. Would love to get sponsored by them !
