Main thing with wanting to be able to shut off the car without having to unplug anything is that usually don't have the time to run back, fight with the connectors (5mm bullets are REALLY SNUG) while leaving stuff still "on" when doing the pull, then heading out to marshal.

Also, my daughter isn't exactly Shera here lol so she has some issues pulling the bullet connectors, so I usually just have her shut her vehicle off and then I take care of it (helps with not having her plug them in wrong either, which I have admittedly done myself once).

I appreciate all the info guys.

Right now I am hoping to stick with the Futaba line as I like the price of the receivers and the features of the radio. I used to love Spektrum but after fighting with one of there DX3S and DX3R Pros that would lose signal at certain parts of the track, I wanted something more reliable so have been sticking with futaba gear.

heck, I could even try another test, got a FlySky radio sitting here that came with my 1/5 scale lol.

lol, I had to train my 8 year old to unplug the bullets. I also made it so it was impossible for here to reverse polarity when plugging in, lol. We have to kid proof these things. Set the auto off to 1 minute, lol. by the time she walks it over to the pit, it will be off

It won't hurt the system to just unplug it from power. Only time that might effect anything is if you were in program mode and making changes - might not recognize it left program mode - happen to me once like 3 years ago.

yeah. Its one of those things I keep an eye on with her, but seeing her having so much fun in RC puts a smile on my face. Youngest (3 going on 13) already keeps riding the 1/5 scale lol. Gonna see if I can pull her around on a sled !

I switched to a 4PL not to long ago and I haven't had any problems with the VTX8 or the VTX10. Everything has been really smooth. Except this radio feels like it's gonna blow away in a strong wind lol

When I had forgotten to calibrate my new VTX8 with the radio it would not power down.

After calibration it was fine. I keep the radio on when powering down, then I power off the radio.

If you are taking about calibrating to the radio. Make sure you shut it of then do the calibration when u turn it on. You can't do it when it is already on.

It will not go into calibration mode period, whether I just turned it on or not. I hold for 3 seconds and it only goes programming mode. I've tried 100 times.

What he meant was, you have to go from OFF to calibration mode, cant get there once it's on, no matter how long it's been on.

So just for kicks try once more, Unplug the battery, plug back in, press AND hold the power button until you hear two tones. Let me know if that works.

Ok. I just want to rule out that it's not the button itself that is causing the problem here. Because that's the simplest explanation.

Maybe try it again using the tip of something to push down a little harder? Could have gotten some dirt or moisture in the v-port so you're only getting intermittent contact. If you have a can of air or a compressor you might give the v-port a blast just to make sure there's nothing in there. Not scientific but just trying to find the simplest fix before you dig any further.

If that doesn't work do you have a PC link?
