The high majority can shut their VTX8's down with no issues. If the speed control is detecting a signal that varies from neutral, its not the esc that causes that - its the radio - more specifically the model on that radio. I use Futaba, Spektrum and Airtronics radios for my racing the testing products. I have one model on my Futaba 4pks that this occurs. But when I move the throttle trim 4 clicks positive and re-calibrate. No issues. Only if I want the throttle trim to be zero. Each model within your radio will send out a slightly different signal, you can test this with our ProGauge.

Also, just to confirm so I can keep my eye out for it, will there be a software update that will allow you to shutoff the esc in the near future for this issue?
And do you know if its only certain radios that have this issue, or certain radio types? I run Futaba 4PL which is having this issue occurring on. But not sure if its consistent to the radio only that I have, or to the 4PL line in general?
As for the ad -- first they are sent to print several months before they are published. Plus we work with someone to create the ads and to pay for fixing that misprint, wouldn't have been worth it. I think that ad will only run one more time in a magazine, we have a new one on the way.

Thanks for the info. Will give a progauge a look then as I am assuming the EZ Link doesn't have that ability.

Cool. Its a nice feature the ESCs have that is worth touting.

Cain - yes its the ProGauge that gives the extra functions of testing servos, radio signal, and cells on a battery. EZLink just lets you adjust the speed controls.
Its not a specific brand of radio that has the issue -- its a radio by radio thing. I have talked to customers with about every brand radio out there. Normally moving the throttle trim (to reset the center point) fixes the issue.
We are always working on new software, I haven't received any feedback as to whether that has come up in testing or not. But again its little out of our control because its a signal issue. Our system is just sensitive enough to notice it I guess.

Thanks I really appreciate that!
You know the more I think about it, back when I first got my 4PL I had an issue where (on steering at least) it lost its neutral setting, and I never coudl quite get it to setup for 70/30 split to work for throttle. I just left it at 50/50 and have been using it like that ever since.
I think I am going to try my daughters radio (3PL) on my vehicle and see how it responds.

Cain, when I just unplug it. faster than holding the button for 4 seconds anyway. I still almost never use the power button to turn it off. I love the viper switch, but turning off the esc can be a pain. So much easier to just unplug.

So this begs the question: does just unplugging it have any risks? Nikos, care to comment?

yeah, I do that at times with the 1/8 buggy as it uses the deans connectors, but my SCT410 I have the 5mm bullets so that can be more involved to pull em.
Right now, I just shut the radio off (I know, BAD!) and then power down. But with the help from you fellas I am hoping to see what it is I have setup wrong that I can fix. the Futaba 4PL manual admittedly can be a bear for me. I have gotten used it it now, but there are still features I am at a loss when trying to configure, maybe time for a new 4PLS radio?

I also have the 4PL and do a lot of the testing with current production software and potential future stuff. I don't have the issues you are reporting, which just echos Nick's comments. It really is a radio by radio case.
If you need some assistance with the 4PL, PM me and I can try to assist.

Cain if you are going to shop for a new radio, I had a chance to play with that new Spektrum this weekend. I'm not really a fan of their products, but this one was very nice. Not sure how much they are or anything, but I figured I would mention it just in case you were looking for something new.
