Thanks for the info.

that's interesting about adjustments versus race open and blinky. It seemed to work better when I made the change back and forth?

Off to the races, thanks again everyone for all the help.

Promatch IP 7200mah 80C 2S lipo
Futaba 4PL with R204GF-E Antenna less receiver

I took my vehicle out to do some shake down runs in the driveway again after talking with nikos2002 concerning so issues I was having where the Viper VTX8 seemed to do a coast mode at throttle when you made a trigger pull less than what was needed for current speed. It felt disconnected from my vehicle in a way.

here are my settings:

Version A61
Brake Strength 80%
Brake Frequency 2500hz
Brake Curve Linear
Dynamic Brake Off
Throttle PWM Frequency 9600Hz
Throttle Punch 60%
Throttle Curve Linear
Throttle Deadband Narrow
Throttle Power 100%
Run Mode Race Blinky
Motor Direction Normal
Motor Type 4 Pole
Voltage Cutoff 6.4V
BEC 7.4V (I got word from hitec this would be fine)

Any ideas? I am wondering if I need to go down on my BEC and / or my Punch control setting to see if that is the issue?

to me at least playing with Throttle PWM, it seemed to give me more of a powerful feel as I went UP in the value?
If what you are feeling is a slight delay at first throttle pull, it might be your throttle punch. I don't like the feel with the punch turned down too low. Try going up in 5% increments to see if the feeling goes away. I usually don't like the feel under 85%

I just tried my Tekno 4x4 with VTX8, HW 4000, 16t pinion, and the factory #3 profile and it works great out in the street. Very smooth and predictable. Will be the 28th before I can test it at the track but temps are way down using lots of brake and full throttle passes. I'll fine tune it at the track if need be.

I completed a my 8 min main at 165 degrees motor temp today. After a 6 min qualifiers my motor was at 130 - 145 degrees. I am very happy with how my VTX8 performed today. It was super smooth, lots of top end and very easy to drive. Now I can't wait for the new 4 pole motors to be released! There was a guy at the track that had the A62 update and downloaded it for me. When I got home I tried to find out more about but couldn't find anything on it. Where do I get these updates?

A62 is a test soft ware. It hasn't been released yet. Please obtain all your software updates from our website.

http://www.viper-rc.com/vtx8.php - for the VTX8
http://www.viper-rc.com/vtx10_r_be.php - for the VTX10 series

The links are at the bottom of each page. a61 and a55 are the current versions

Thank you everyone for all your help!

Had a great day of racing action yesterday. I left the SCT410 in Race Open Mode and the EB48 in Blinky with the various configurations specific to each of them, with me turning the SCT410 up to 16000hz and leaving the EB48 at 9600hz.

The 16000hz setup really felt great, gave me the power I was looking for without messing with gearing which for the track was pretty much deal.

The lead dog in 4x4 SCT had some sort of issue (stripped a wheel I think) and I was able to squeak out the win 4x4 SCT, as well as take it in 1/8 E buggy with Viper VTX8s!

After some initial getting used to, I am very happy now with these ESCs.

Decided to go ahead and get the pclink as I am curious how good this new software that is still in testing I guess will be?

congrats!

Curious, for the Viper ESCs, 1/10 size, do they have any issues running certain motors? I know that speed passions latest stuff has issues with certain motors, want to make sure non with Viper if I make the ESC switch too.

I have run SP, Novak, viper, Tekin gEN1/gEN2 and reedy motors without issues.

I changed out the radio and reciever on my sons SC10 running the Copperhead R with the Velineon motor.

I cannot get it into calibration mode.

At this step it fails:

Leave the throttle on the transmitter at neutral, press and hold the red power button on the V-PORT for three seconds. (Followed by beep tone from the motor, F/N LED on the V-PORT will be indicated as the image at right)

I press the button for 3 seconds and it just turns on the F and R lights as if it is ready for the Pro-Gauge, it never beeps the motor. If I press the button again it either turns off or goes back to neutral.

I moved the throttle trim back and forth and centered it but still no go.

Can the motor be causing the issue? I tried moving around the a/b/c wires and it still doesn't work.

Second question I also have a 17.5 motor sensored motor that I want to try in my sons truck, Will the Copperhead R be able to run it, of course in sensorless mode?

Thanks, I think that is the problem. I had the vehicle "on" when trying to start the calibration. I have calibrated my VTX10-BE and my other Copperhead R but only once for each on initial setup. Even this ESC when I initially installed it.

lol, I remember doing that a few times myself.

Once you get used to it, the viper setup is pretty straight forward, I am liking it, it just getting to that point first lol.

That was definitely the problem, re-ran calibration with the power off at the vehicle and it of course worked as the instructions say and I got the motor beep.

I think what got me off sequence, was that I had added a new radio and receiver to his system and completed the bind process first and then immediately tried the re-calibration.
