So would you guys say these are the best/fastest motors available as of today? I'm just wondering how they compare to tekin ect... Or is it mostly hype? Also why would a company call their motor line viper and then use the snake head too. Looks just like viper alarms logo or is this a division of DEI? The name really turns me off to be honest but I could buff and polish the snake off. Lol!
So are they the best in your opinion? Now i run Viper. I can seriously say that these have the most torque, and can be geared super high, and STILL have incredible top end, and bottom end. I will say these motors are definitely one of the top in its class. |

So are they the best in your opinion? I do not have near as much experience as alot of ther sponsored guys...but my 6.5 is geared w/ 11Tooth pinion...and I am able to pull some others with 12Tooth pinions w/ boost/timing....I have not added any timing. |
I am hoping to pick up the Losi SCTE 4x4. My plan so far is the RX8 and 4.5, but before I start ordering things I want to know what you guys think. This is a heavy ride (6-7.5 lbs when running a watered track)and I need to make 10 minutes on a track that runs 30-35 second laps. I will be running 5200 2S Lipo's. What do you recommend?

I will be getting the vtraxR with 550 viper combo. It will be a serious competitor! |
I cannot say enough good things about the 6.5T I picked up. After running it with no timing or boost and still pulling some seriously tuned TT's on the back straight last weekend, (with only an 11T Pinion) I have thought of picking up an 8.5 and seeing how it will run with some additional timing in the mix.
Please...please...please, get these Vtrax's on the shelves, so I can put one in the TT with the sweet Viper 6.5T. Don't get me wrong... I have no issues with the RS Pro, but the field programmer would make set up changes so much quicker in the tuning faze of testing. Oh...and if you are looking for someone to represent your product in "The Lone Star" State....hit me up. I would be more than happy to show it off in the area. |
XB8emUP,you are correct in that the "pro gauge" makes track side tuning a fast and wonderful opption. This past weekend, I used the pro gauge to tune my vtrax 10 and it was so easy. I was able to do it IN pit road and get right back out on the track to try my new setting. The other nice thing is the pro gauge has 8 profiles that act like Model Memory. Race at two different tracks that need different setting? just store them in the profile and you will never have to wonder what you used last time. It will already be there.I Have only been on the team for a few weeks and can say that the viper brushless motor and vtrax 10 e.s.c. are the way to go.
P.S. Sold my tekin rs pro over the weekend. goodbye tekin, Hello Future Reuben Diaz |
Cool, I'll pick one up for the beyond FTSC10! Hehee! Being in Washington my self I must try one of these. Right now I'm running a old Orion 4.5 sensored on mmp and dominate with it. It's not a real torque motor but it's so smooth and fast the truck is dialed with it. So I fear the change but can't help but wonder about the viper motors. Thanks for the input.
Oh and by the way the viper 5902's rock, best alarm I've had. I've got the remote start, tilt sensor, window modual ect...sick! I was just joking about the DEI thing lol! |

Richard - the PC link doesn't come with the ProGauge (but the V-Port link does). Your speedo will come with the most recent firmware though, you'll be set.

Hmmmmm.... almost time for a new 17.5 motor...
|
Well I took the plunge and got a 17.5. I am curious as to how to get the power out of this motor that people are talking about. It seems that the way I am geared that the motor is just OK. But nothing special. After reading on here its possible I am way under geared and that is why I have to compensate with a lot of timing. I am running a B4 indoors on carpet, with foam tires, 70 by 45 track with jumps. Geared at 72/28 with 45* on the motor and 45* in the ESC and I was not nearly as fast as I was before. So I must be missing the sweet spot. Typically I run with a 69/31 and about 15 degrees of timing in the ESC. And I am not saying that I was slow, because that was not the case at all. I was still pulling the fasted qualifying times. But the motor did not have the rip that I was expecting. I will be going back to my default gearing and seeing if this makes the motor seem better. Didn't have a chance to change on race day

Macdude, with the numbers you have posted( 72/28 and 69/31) you actually went down on gearing. You need to go back to the 69/31 gearing and try that with the timing on the motor put back at 30 degrees. You should find that the motor will run faster and cooler. The next thing you may need to do is gear up one to two teeth on the pinion. Start here and let us know how it worked for you.
