Default What's the secret?

I have a vtx10r that I've really enjoyed using on 2s. I saw the box says it's capable of 4s. Well I tried 3s w/ a 2600kv motor. The car went for about 5 seconds and stopped. The esc turned off. No smoke or funny smells came from it. But it will not turn on no matter what. I've tested the battery to make sure it's good and it is. I've tried again w/ 2s and still it will not turn on.

So is there some secret dance I need to do to get it to go back on?

hey guys, can one of you give me a quick run down on how the brake freq setting works?

Is it like throttle, higher the number smoother the brakes?

You are correct. Here is a nice tutorial of what all the functions of the progauge does.

Any ESC running 3s is more prone to BEC damage is you dont setup the ESC correctly. I would run a higher throttle frequency 16,000 hz and gear down to prevent voltage spikes which can harm the BEC. Send it in using Viper's RMA and see what they say.

I was using an external BEC (esc red wire pulled). I have seen ESC's smoke before and this didn't do that and it doesn't smell like it burned up. I figured there is some protection feature that got tripped and I need to reset it.

But, you are right, if there is nothing like that then I'll have to send it in.

Profile 2 would probably work pretty good with a few changes.

Lower the throttle PWM down to the 6000-8000 range (will give you a little more torque and more aggressive response. If you need to smooth it out, raise it up some. 2wd buggy is normally 16000)
Set punch around 80% (I run my punch in my buggy at 70)

Add in a little drag brake, maybe 15% or so (just to help setup turns)

Try that. Honestly, you can run profile 2 and not change it one bit and it will perform pretty good. These settings I suggested are just to change the feel.

As far as gearing goes, I don't know the internal of that truck. Check the manual or setup sheets and use them as a starting point. For example if the setup sheet says 7.5T motor 22 tooth pinion, go up 3 teeth for your 10.5 and start there. Just watch the temps the first couple minutes and then adjust off of it.

One other option is to choose the profile for 13.5 boost and then turn the boost down (or off). That will also work.

Beauty of Viper is you have many options

most of the setup sheets I see for SC10 have 7.5's at 18/84. I would start around 21/84 and adjust. See how that works.

I bought a viper copperhead system a couple months ago. The first esc i sent in after it completely stopped responding, and now the second one shuts off after about 30 seconds (usually under hard breaking). Its not hot when it cuts out either, and when it does the esc sets the motor into a hard stop. I havent really bashed this truck around (Losi SCTE), basically just grandma driving my new truck on an indoor track . Has anyone else had problems with these copperheads, im worried it might be a battery connection frying everything...and, why has this happened twice

I'll leave the tech stuff to the pros but first thing you need to look at is what was the same / different as far as electronics between both times. Did you use everything the same? was any one piece different? if so, which piece? That's all stuff that will help in trouble shooting the issue.
