As for what combo - it really depends on what classes you are running. If running anything lower than a 10.5 - or planning on it in the future - use the VTX10R. If running Stock (or Spec Stock type motors) the VTX will be a good choice and same a few bucks.

Look for more updates as we get closer to the event. We plan on making sure everyone knows we are at this race!!!!

As of June 1 - our units are being shipped with the wires pre-soldered on the posts. No plugs for the VTX series speed controls (plugs are included on Copperhead as its more of an economy based system). Feel free to change the wire if you like - I actually run orange wires on my VTX10 most of the time, it should look good with the Xray aluminum color.

Running Blinky Class with a AE T4.1 and i use the VTX10 and Viper 17.5t motor, what would be the best for the timing to be set to? I run a 72 Spur / 30 Pinion and at the stock 30 that it comes set to it felt a little slow compared to other blinky setups running similar gearing.

Damion- on the can I normally run 40* at club races and turn it all the way up to 45* at a big race. Also keep in mind that the VST motors are more torque based than some other motors on the market. If you ran a 30 pinion on your old motor maybe another tooth or two if the temperature can take it. I think I ran 72-30 when I won the JC race last year, but the transmission in my truck was 2.4 not 2.6. So that would equal anothe pinion or so.

Hey everyone - new Viper (motor) guy here.
I bought a new 8.5 for my 1/10th Tamiya 4WD and plan to use it on a large outdoor hard clay track. I had it out this weekend and it was kind of a dog. I was running it with my Tekin RS - basically blinky w/15* timing. I had the same gearing as my LRP 9.5 - which I had boosted and it was no where near as fast - in fact, it seemed like it was missing a sensor wire (it was not) - ya know, just not able to stretch it's legs, topping out in third gear - so to speak.
Versus my LRP, should I start with gearing up from a 19T to a 21-22T and/or add some boost? I got an 8.5 as my 9.5 was boosted and even turbo'd so I figured more motor was as good as one max'd out.
Thanks in advance - beautiful motor, great packaging - now can someone help me get it to come alive!

Dub - yea if the temp was 133 after your race try another tooth or even two. Ideally go up one first, check your temps and see if you still have room. I don't like to run more than 150-160 at club races - you can go little more (like at a big race), but remember more you push it, more your chance it in the future.

Heavy, our motors are more torque based than RPM, so I would almost run the same thing you did with your old motor on the new VST motor, even though its a turn lower. Its hard to compare running a setup boosted with a set up not boosted. boosted is always going to feel faster.

Have a quick question, i have a 4x4 sc and just bought the 5.5vxl and wondering what gearing i should be looking into. The stock pinion is 13t spur 48 (its the new Tean C TS4). I ran this past weekend and felt really good just thinking im going to need ti go up at least 1 tooth on the pinion, but wondering about the timing as well it came set in the middle of the dial. Im kind of new to the electric scene as all i have run is 1/8 buggy with the castle setup and its all in the ESC. Also im running the mambamaxpro ESC with the viper.

IMO - you only need as much speed as the fastest car on the strait. Top end speed is usually only used on 10% or less of the track, so it does not come to such a huge benefit to try and have the fastest car on the strait if it hurts you at any particular part of the track.

I have been racing the Vipers with no issues for months now but this past weekend I had an issue arise that kind of worried me a bit. The 17.5 in my buggy and 8.5 in my short course were getting extremely hot. 190-200. I have made no chages to the ESC or anything and when I raced last the temp outside was hotter than it was this weekend. ESC temp were 115-120. normal for when outside temp is 85-90 degrees. The motors last ime out were 135-150 and they climbed quite a bit and was just wondering what the casue maybe. Any insight would be great. Thanks
