there are a few things to look at here
1. have you calibrated your radio to the speed controller via the instructions that came with the system
2. what profile are you running the esc on ...they come preloaded with several profiles for people who dont have the pro-gauge programming card ...again the instructions are a great resource when figuring out the profile you need
3. get a pro gauge if possible ...which will allow you to modify the settings to your liking

try these simple things first ...you should be pulling wheelies soon ...let us know how it turns out

twonb1- like Brian said, the profile on the esc can make a difference, but remember its also going to effect things like heat as well, so be careful with the changesn

Also a good thing to check is to make sure you transmission is as free spinning as possible. Bearings clean and working correctly. Nothing binding (like wheels too tight or screws too tight. When you have two set ups that ate the same, it's the little details that can make a big difference.

Yeah I went and made sure that the gear mesh was loose as possible and cleaned everything the night before we did the speed test

He was getting 6 to 7 mph faster on the same battery.

Thanks guys for the help.

But if he is running profile 3, 4, 5- he will have a mechanical advantage. And you do have to careful. You would be amazed how two of the same vehicles (RTR or not) can have differences in how smooth everything spins. If you take off you pinion gear and spin the wheels, the free it spins the better.

How is the copperhead doing in the Losi SCTE? Looking at the 4500kv setup. We normally run 10 minute mains for the pro series so being able to run 10 on a large wide-open track is a must. I would have an Orion Carbon 6500 2s that I would use for the mains. Do-able?

Thats just it he isnt even using a viper system. He is using the stock traxxas vilineon system. Both of them spin about the same

Andrew, I run the R45 in my scte. Had it in for both of our Texas rcpro events. Ran problem free both events. I use nano 6600's.
Very smooth motor

What gearing and ESC profile are you using if you don't mind me asking.

OK here's the update tried everything you guys recommended. Cleaned all my bearing wheels and tranny, made sure everything spint freely, made sure gear mesh was not to tight, reprogramed car to controller, adjusted timing a lil, and added some punch, but his is still getting higher MPH than me.

Am I missing something.
