Sunday March 11, was the 2nd round of the South Florida Winter Series. This is a three round series that will visit some of the best tracks that south florida has to offer. This round was held at Bashers R/C Raceway in Palm Beach Gardens. Bashers is a tight indoor track and with over 160 entries, Pitts would fill fast.
I competed in two classes, 2wd stock and 2wd Mod. Both classes would have 3 full heats of racers

2wd Stock:
The crowd would be treated to a nose to tale run between Glenn Worthington and Reuben Diaz. I would go on to finish in 2nd just 1.01 seconds behind first place. With the points from the first race and the points from this race I am now in First place. With one more race left.

2wd Mod:
I would start on the 3rd spot on the grid and at the sound of the horn I would go to second. Two laps later I would find myself in 3rd and that is where I would stay until the one minute mark. I got caught up in a lap traffic crash and that would drop me to fifth and that is where I would finish. With the points from the first race and the points from this race, I am in fifth place with one more race left.

I would like to thank my following sponsors:
TQ Racing, Viper R/C Solutions
Panther tires, DE Racing,
B-FAST

Went racing yesterday with my new copperhead system, I didn't even realize that it was a uncensored system. very smooth and ran great all day. I ran a battery for practice, 3, 6 min qual's and a 8 minute main. I took 3rd in the A main.

thefatkid, as the rotor gets older and loses its strength it will run hotter, hotter it runs - faster it loses it strength. At a recent race other motor companies were changing rotors every run. We didn't and we kept the pace.

Motor- did you try to re-calibrate the speed control - if your getting the lights, there is a set up or setting that is not correct.

Nice job at the track guys. Great to see those results. We don't just show up for the big events. We grind it out at tracks everywhere we can.

I have a question on brakes with my vtx10 esc. It has always had horrible brake and now it is to the point I have almost none. The epa and strength are at 100. If going slow (out of smart brake) or jumping and using the brake to bring the nose down, it just rolls or does nothing. I move the band up to normal from narrow, recalibrated with the radio (m11x) and nothing. My other esc's are great and have plenty of brake.

Check your Brake PWM Freq setting, and if it is set on the low side, than raise the frequency. This will give you more initial brake feeling.

Also, you may have a capacitor going weak.

vtx10 issue

I have just ran into a similiar problem with my esc not powering forward. I ran it last wknd just fine. Got my new radio went through the setup with all three cars and my 2wd doesn't work. It goes click and the motor jumps but then it stops. the lights and calibration appear to be working. Does this sound like my caps are bad or something else? You can actually see the red power wire move when I try to apply throttle. Then nothing! If someone can help please, otherwise I'm sending it in.

nikos2002 03-13-2012 10:07 AM

stu - the red wire moves?? Like its loose? Make sure all your solder joints are good. Sensor wire good. Best thing to do is try another motor to verify. But run the wiring first, even check the sensor wire connection on the speed control.

stu541 03-13-2012 10:10 AM

I did all that. switched sensor wire to new one. Then switched out the motor to my truck. Even hooked up the radio and receiver that was in it running flawless over wknd. It acts like the signal is getting there but It can't put power to the motor. That's why I asked about the cap being bad...

If you have a voltmeter can you check if the wires to the motor are getting any voltage thru them. It seems the esc is okay since the lights are properly turning on. I don't know why the red positive wire is moving....that sounds pike a loose connection on the back of the esc.

stu541 03-13-2012 02:34 PM

I am wanting a backup esc anyways, so I am going to order another vtx10 and send mine in. I also just got the link for my pc. How do I get the firmware updates?

nikos2002 03-13-2012 02:49 PM

The actual software files are on the website. Look up the speed control a the files are able to be downloaded from there.
