According to viper there is no turn limit on the vtx10r. I will be getting it tomorrow and I will find out for sure.

Well that sucks. I should have asked this question before I sold my rx8.

I have been told to keep going bigger with the viper stuff. I think I am going to back down to like 30/75 and work my way back up. The one thing I do have to say is that even with the big ratio I have, my viper gear is NOT having any torque issues! Bottom end on these motors is stout.

You may want to do some testing with even higher gearing but end-bell timing turned down to the 15-20 deg range.

The enemy in 17.5 is heat. The VST17.5 has substantial torque and is capable of pulling some serious gear, for 2 or 3 minutes. The heat will eventually slow the motor and cook it. We have to either limit the gearing and/or the timing to controll temps.

That is the reason why you are seeing your new motors have all sorts of slots and holes to allow the heat out.

And you can temp the outside of motors with the best heat guns, but it is a very in-accurate measurement of the motor. You can get the stator to change temp by 20 or 30 degrees and it will only show a 2-5 deg temp change on the outside of the motor. The difference between 130-140 on the outside of the motor may be as much as a 50 or 60 degree temp change internally depending on how "fast" the motor was heated up.

losi---Chris. There are lots of factors that go into it. How free is your drive train? How tight is your gear mesh? How do you drive, full throttle all the time? Do you use a lot of brakes? Which profile did you use? Each one of these can effect speed and temp.

Drive train and gear mesh were set up by my friend. I'm sure they were fine. I didnt drive full throttle hardly at all, the track layout prevents that. It was a lot of short punches to hit the jumps right after a 180. I didnt use the brakes too much either, I tried to just let off and turn into the corners most of the time. I was on Profile 2.

I just didnt know why it did it early, then ran fine for a heat, then did it twice in a row (after 2-3 minutes). I dont have enough run time on it to know if the 13 has made it stop completely or not. I'll run again in a couple of weekends with the 13 and see what happens I guess.

Couple of pics from the Motorama. A-main Mod truck pics and another pic that liverc took of my buggy:sneaky: Thanks to nick. I ran into a speedo issue and he took care of it with no problems!

540 they say no limit. Yes but as was stated by several people that statment was describing 2pole 540 motors.

The pro4 is very new and is a differnt animal. That speed control was designed before the release of the 4 pole Pro4. The pro4 draws power like a 1 to 2 turn 550 motor but in a 540 can.

Good luck. all I can say is you have been warned.

Maybe you could post your testing of this so others with the same question could search and find their answer?

It has been tested and reported here already.

The VTX10R will run some, but will severely cog with hard acceleration. We do not recommend this configuration at all.

The Pro4 motor is basically a short 1/8th scale motor.

nikos2002 02-23-2012 09:09 AM

Rob, thanks for the good words, sorry you had any trouble at all. All and all a good weekend. Good bumping up in 2wd also.

nikos2002 02-23-2012 09:12 AM

Er8sr - you should get it soon, sometimes there might be a delay through the server systems. All this great technology we all have. PM me if you don't see it during the day today.

I ran my vtx10r with the Tekin pro 4 4000 in my sc10 4x4 with not a single problem. Mine didn't cog or anything wrong. I ran them together from when the pro 4 came out till january. I just recently switched back to Tekin. But this is my experience with them together.
