viper reads the temps on the inside ben. outside temp will be much cooler than set temp.

Still seems... HOT!

You can try 220 on the cut off, but as nitroal mentioned it takes the reading from inside the ESC where temps are much higher. To low and you will get false readings and premature shut off. It stumps everyone at the start, it's probability the most asked question.

i set mine at 200 the first time and it shut down after about 3 min. temped it right away with an exergen and it read 135.

rider313 09-10-2011 07:15 PM

What readings do you guys feel safe is on the can of the motor?

nitroal 09-10-2011 07:18 PM

i think it's a roll of the dice. i've had a motor burn up and temp at 180, and i have 1 still running that has temped as high as 220. in general, i think under 190 should be good. i would shoot for a 160-180 range though.

So... with the AE 4x4... a popular gearing choice is 12 pinion with a 62 spur when running the LRP motors... Last weekend, i ran the same gearing in a Novak Ballistic... Someone mentioned to me that these viper 4.5 550 motors are more torque based than RPM and might run a 14-15 with this motor? Is this correct?

I have the AE 4x4 setup with a 12/62 for tomorrow.. with the settings mentioned prior... Going to be running on a 200x100 track.... lol

It it a normal concensious with these types of motors... that you gear lower, they run cooler? I have come across some 540 motors.. that if you run them lower.. they get hotter... Just want to be on the safe side tomorrow.

Right out of the gate I would temp after 3 minutes on that track. 12T seems small to me for that track which is ginormous lol. I have also found if you are under geared it will overheat. With any new system it's always important to babysit every 3 minutes until you get to where you want.

bring it on 09-10-2011 09:53 PM

WOW, That's a track

Chase1472 09-10-2011 11:58 PM

wow that track is HUGE

ScottKelly911 09-11-2011 02:53 AM

I think I'd need a 1/5th scale just to be able to keep my eyes on the truck through some of those sections! That's a super fun looking track though! Wow, Any vid of it?

Scottmisfits 09-11-2011 06:14 AM

70 second lap times? That's a lot of of up and down on that track!

Bobby Z 09-11-2011 06:52 AM

I ordered my Viper VTX10 and 17.5 motor w/pro gauge last night. I also ordered the VP Link for firmware updates.

Can someone provide a good starting setup for ESC and gearing for TLR 22? I will be racing indoors on carpet offroad track. Track is approximately 85 x 50
Traction is very high but looking for smooth setup.
