Yeah 9986 is a fuel hog. Great power but thirsty. Try a 2058. Similar power but better mileage.

Personally I love the sound of the 9886 no matter what engine I've used it on. Unfortunately I get lower mileage so I rarely use it anymore. But wow...engines sure sing on top, nothing like the wailof the 9886. FWIW I have not tried the 9886 on the Roma, only the 9901 and 2084. Compared to the 9901, my 2084 gave better fuel mileage and feels smoother across the power band. I would like to try the 2096 on the Roma just have not gotten a chance to do so.
What about the jp3? Ill prolly have to do some test runs, borrow a 2084 and compare the 3.. So far the 9901 got 8 minutes

jp-3 pretty similar in all aspects to a 9886/41021 combo

41021/51016 combo will give you the best mileage from what we see traveling around. For a carb restrictor, you should try 6.0/6.5/7.0. We recommend starting with 6.5. LSN is about flush +/- 1/4 turn. HSN is about 1/2 to 1 turn in from flush on a fully broken in engine. Newer engines need the HSN more open (~flush) and that's why it takes a little while (1-2 gal) for the mileage to come around. We normally see ROMAs doing 10+ minutes in Truggies without stressing the engine. To get 12-15 minutes you have to run the engine very lean and you better be careful and know what you are doing.

Im going to be breaking in my plus 4 btts tonight. What restrictor should i use? And how many idle tanks should i go through before going through tanks at the track?

7-7.5 and I usually idle the engine for about 3/4 of a tank twice before putting it on the ground. I would get about 6-8 additional tanks through the engine in an open field before you put it on the track and try to avoid leaning it out too soon.

don't forget to make the bottom end flush before starting it for the first time and raise the idle just a little bit to keep it running during the initial break in.

i usually use the 8mm restrictor.. and do what the above says.. only i use time.. 5 minutes to idle on the box... the 7 minutes running.. increasing each time and slowly rolling into a higher speed..

When breaking in the engine, is there any certain temp you shouldn't go over? Do you let the engine cool down between tanks?

Shoot for about 210 to 220* F I run the first 2 tanks separate one at a time, letting the engine cool with piston a BDC (always) After that taking easy runs, back to back tanks with light load, no more then 1/4 throttle but keeping the temp in that target range. Each pair of tanks gets a little more throttle and a little leanerfor about 1500CC than I put it on the track and take it easy for a few more tanks. By then it will be ready for a fat race tune. At about 2 gallons it will be fully broke in and ready to scream at 260 to 280*

What would cause the piston to be able to be pushed through the liner on a 4btt WC that's only done 4 Ltrs

that don't sound right but I would guess improper breakin , bad fuel or a number of things

overleaning too early would be my suspicion
