I just got a 1 gallon old serpent 811 with a nova plus 4c team factory tuned and the power is awesome but It does not idle the best as it seems to have a step down and after about 20 seconds of idling it will usually die. High speed power and low speed both are great but I am having a hard time getting a steady idle. I am use use to how the o.s. motors tune and have been told that the nova's tune completely different. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I forgo to ask what the base settings are for this engine as well. Thanks.

Sounds like your LSN is a little rich, start to lean the bottom until you have a stable idle, until that 2 stage is gone and the acceleration feels clean and doesnt bog. Do this on the starter box. Set the high speed at flush with the housing, drive the car around, go full throttle. After that full throttle run for about 1 or 2 seconds, lean it 1/8th of a turn and see if the rpm is higher. Also, lean the hsn until you get smoke up to 3/4 throttle but when you go full throttle, you dont see smoke. Make sure you don't lean it too much though, make sure your temps dont go over 240, if you have a guage. The OS plug will make it idle stronger and may be a little more forgiving on the tune. Its what I use and I love it, prefer it over the nova plugs. Good luck! ;) |

Start out flush on the top and 4 1/2 turns out on the bottom and lean from there like how I told. Stock settings are really rich only for break in. |
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

DO NOT put an OS plug in ur nova. Bad idea. Even if you tighten it to just barely make a seal, the risk is not worth it.
|
Is the low speed needle on the plus4C team just used for adjusting the idle or does it adjust the low speed as well?
|
You could potentially destroy the taper seal within the head button. And your engine will be far from consistent. Seen it too many times...

I highly recommend a p4 plug. Maybe put a nova plug in it and remove it and put a p4 in it right after and when u start it up again u will notice a difference. |
And once again if u "properly" tune the nova plug it wil be juuuuuussssst fine

Nope, I use a P4 plug in my P5 and I can interchange plugs perfectly.

And not just me, the other engine expert guys at the track were stumped.

I have cured flameout problems, drivability issues, drastic runtime depletion issues, and tuning inconsistency issues by installing new head buttons on Novarossi engines AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN RAN WITH OS PLUGS. It destroys the taper seal. Once the engine heats up to "racing temperature" the engine does not operate to its peak potential.
And for your viewing pleasure.... http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9a649fbd.jpg It won't ruin anything as long as you don't over torque it. And yeah, because Novarossi is like santa Claus, he knows when ur sleeping, he knows when ur awake, he knows if you've installed os plugs in your nova, right,? Read that better, it says damaged caused by that plug, not something like a manufacturing defect. |
You will always get better torque with a hotter plug because of the earlier ignition. I saw an engine that normally runs Nova plugs. Then he tried an OS plug and that also worked well. BUT!!!! When he took out the OS plug, there where small metal fragments on the thread of the plug and in the thread in the head. Why? Because the OS plug will make a new thread...
