Ok Im truely lost for words so I will go with details, Clocked Novarossi Banito, 2058 pipe and short ofna header, m2c clutch with 4 x 1.0 springs and reg hard ally shoes ( no weights fitted ), Serpent truggy, 30% nitro 11% oil ( nitro x sss ) half bald calibers ( m2 ) 1/2 gallon of fuel through the engine, never temped over 210 f and the engine is a pure animal to drive, you be the judge.

Like you say, watch out for a too small idle gap with this method, it's easy to go below ~0.5mm this way and that will make the bottom end very sensitive & possibly lean.

All that tuning...
Set the HSN on the rich side, and the lean the LSN until the engine say "ding ding ding". Turn the LSN a little out. Then you know where the LSN are too lean instead of wasting 1 hour of fine tune the low end 1/12 of a turn each time... Now, set the HSN so its just lean of the slow 2 stroke tune and fínally check the idle again. All you have to do the rest of the day, are a little in or out on the HSN if the engine starts to scream or go slow on the straight.
Now the carburator needles are in balance. If the idle starts to get a little rich, the HSN will also be a little rich and visa versa. Lean or richen the HSN an hour or two, and the idle will get perfect again.

I'm very surprised that Nova still make the .28 and have not dropped it in favor of a .23/.24. I have some old school .28 here from my MT racing days the Nova .28 528XR modified and it is a animal... I know the Bonito is right up there with the power to pull a Truggy around, But having a look in the Novarossi site last night just surprised me that's all......
edit: in stock timing trim the older 528 is more aggressive, the 28-7 smoother......... However when modified timings are applied the 28-7 sleeve ends up breathing better then the 528 sleeve does..they both make similar power down low, but in the mid and top the 28-7 ramps up harder which gives it a noticeable broader powerband.....

Here is some more footage of the Clockwork Racing Engines modified Novarossi Banito, just over the 3/4 gallon mark and the idle gap is still a little large and running a little rich on the bottom but this baby is really pulling hard and showing how long its legs, cant wait for the race tune and the balls to drop and get this on the track.

you should have to close/lean the mixture needles , probably around 2hrs on lsn , then adjust top n the track
remember that the smaller the restrictor the smaller the tuning window and higher the temps , adam runs his stuff about 270-290 most of the time , it is novarossi of course

So that the motor works like with the venturi of 6.5mm, it must always work to 270-290 of temperature?

How are you liking it so far ? other then being fast anything else you could say about it ? just curious, as your running a pipe/header combo I have not tried yet....How does this and the P5 compare ? and how would it compare with something like a P7R.....

Now the banito is a whole other story this animal will out pull the picco everywhere, off the line the banito would be gone and the only time the picco would see the banito again is when it came round to lap it.
The picco was very raw power than really snapped where as both these novarossi engines are truely smooth through the trigger and can be controlled right off the line which is just plan awsome and the power can be dirrected straight into speed where the picco was really hard to feather and wasted a bit of power spinning in my experience.
More track time needed but the novarossi engines are awsome

Wherever the temps end up for great performance is where they end up , I dont usually get too worried with temps on novarossi engines , if they start lean bogging and it isnt the clutch or fuel/pressure system then you need to worry

A frind of my has a Plus4. 3 gallons on it and a lot of compression. He has never gotten any power out of it. His Killer9 has more power!!! If he tunes for the wellknown Novarossi power it sounds very lean.
25% nitro, 6,5 mm venturi, 41021, 9901, turbo head and 0,7 mm shims. Has has tried OD77T and Novarossi C5TGC + C6TGC glowplugs.
So he send it to me. Rust on the rear bearing and on the crankshaft
I cleaned up the crank and took all the other parts in one of my own crankcases.
Same result: With a prober tune, it has plenty of power but it sounds too lean. At the end of the straight it comes down to idlespeed as it shall, but after a few seconds at idle it starts to ding ding ding. Doesn't get too hot and it has a smooth and powerfull acceleration when you hit the throttle. No hessitation as it would if the tune was too lean. Changed the carburator and crank with no improvements. Can't see any leaks from backplate, front bearing, carburator, head and glowplug... The engine has been tested in two XRAY cars where any other engine runs perfect.
What can cause this problem?

Look at the head button , see if the plug threads in crooked the last thread and a half or so , look on the underside into the combustion bowl and check the plug
seal , if it isnt right you will notice the plug is touching the tapered seal are on one side and will have a gap on the other .
Seen that wreak some havoc on engine tuning

How is the exhaust gasket on the engine and pipe? Sound to me that it gets some air that it is not suppose to. I would also try another pipe, so that it is not anything wrong with it. If the pipe has a dent ( bulk på norsk ) on the largest section ( thickest ) it will not let the exhaust out and it will be blocked. Stinger is not pushed into the pipe?
