Fired up the B5 tonight. Sounds mean with the 2013.

Ron, see of you can make a pipe header that will fit a bit better in the MBX6. That 2013 was tuff to stuff into the buggy.

lockmouth 08-26-2009 07:11 PM

Ron, is this engine close to race tune out the box?? Man I broke one in tonight for my buddy an it fired right up with a super strong idle. I gave the engine a little input on the box an boy was it responsive.

The B5 is by far the most simple engine I have ever broke in :D We are useing Byrons 25%, OD97T plug, and 2013 pipe. This engine is going to be a head turner :tire:

I got one comming in with a baseball bat for a pipe.

Ron,

I'll stop making threads for you to search on and answer questions. Instead, I'll post them here for a little bit. :D

I have read through this post a few times and am trying to use it to break in my B7 Pro. I may very well buy a B5 as well, but that is a different story....

I have been able to get it idling pretty well, but the engine will periodically rev itself for no apparent reason. It may sit in an idle for 10-15 seconds and then out of the blue start to rev higher without me touching throttle. Sometimes hitting and holding the brake returns it to the former idle, sometimes not. Sometimes the idle returns just as mysteriously as the rev came.

I am basically still in the first and second paragraph - I haven't even idled it through a tank.

I ran this thing on the track today with a JP3. I have it set up so that I can only pull about 1/2 throttle still with the HS only about 3 hours in from flush, and this thing is a beast.

sstoffer, it sounds like a modified 2 stroke dirt bike with that pipe doesn't it lol!

Regarding the pipe what exactly are you seeing as a problem with the MBX-6? Is it the angle of the manifold? If so just as an fyi you can change the bend slightly by just heating it up and then inserting a socket extension in both ends and applying a little force. Not something that you should have to do but it is a way that I have changed the bend on manifolds before in the past.

Hey lockmouth, it's nice to see that guys are finally getting their engines in! Regarding the engine being close to race tune out of the box lol, it could be. But and this is a big but, there are way too many variables involved to assume this. The best bet is always to fire the engine up and immediately start richening the needles just to be safe and then start with the break in using either the system that I outlined some pages back or using your preferred method. This engine is pretty peppy so even running it rich you will find it to be quite snappy!

Hey Garet, I was asking that because you basically started two identical I'm having problems tuning my B7-Pro threads. This thread is about the B5, a completely different engine so if possible I'd prefer not to get people confused by having info about completely different engines one her. I'll dig up one of the B7-Pro threads that started and answer your questions there.

You're going to like it! A lot of you have seen what a guy like Kortz is able to do with this engine, if not you can just take a look at the vid that Marcus posted (thanks!) down below. Now you guys will see what it's like to run with the exact same equipment that the a pro runs with and best of all...it cost you less than two hundred bucks to get it lol, enjoy!! Let me know what you think once you get some more fuel through it and start running it at race tune.

Honestly, everyone that got one out of the first batch lucked out! I only got a small shipment in before Italy closed down for the holidays. I can say that there are a handful more B5's that will be showing up at A-Main tomorrow afternoon so I'd strongly advise anyone that wants one to get an order in. Next shipment will not be here until mid September

I'll resell mine! start the price at 400? Anyone? anyone? (kidding)

I should have it in by friday to break it in.

What are you guys running for your clutch set up? On my V-spec I run 2 1.0 spings and 1 1.1 with jammin red shoes. I just want to know where to start off. I'm lazy like that...

Kortz runs the Jammin shoes also. Page back a bit, I posted Kortz clutch set up some where on one of the first couple of pages.

Geeze Ron. You're so helpful. So has kortz tried the big boy pipe?

I'll just run the same set up as usual. 2 1.0's 1 1.1
