Monty, I know you are not a losi guy but my damn truggy kills rear diffs. I know they are shimmed correctly because i do the same on my losi buggy and havent lost one yet and i used to run it onroad with monster grip. Today i got lucky and finished third but blew both pinion bearings in the last 3 minutes. I think at 1/2 the price i will run my buggy diffs in the truggy, but if you have any suggestions on how to check the shimming i would greatly appreciate it

It does make sense though because I am sure that with all the problems people have with the Losi truggy, it is always in the rear diff, if it was only the gears you would think there would have been enough r&d for an update to fix the problem. As for the shimming, but I have heard to shim so tight it feels notchy. I might be a bit hard on the brakes
so I will definitely look into that, but I never have my brake bias set tight, I guess I will loosen the rear breaks up a bit and watch my braking style.

But every engine has its sweet spot of course which is known by trial and error

-Replace ring and pinion at the same time.
-When the r&p are brand new, shim the ring gear so that there is a one notchy spot when the gearbox is assembled.
-Run a tank gently, check mesh, and re-shim as necessary. You may have to move a thin shim from one side to another.
-Rear brakes should barely lock up. The losi truggy has a ton of steering, so if you need a ton of rear brakes to rotate the truggy, then something may be wrong with your setup.
The aluminum gearbox inserts are not really necessary, but some swear by them. Keep in mind that the gearbox plastics does fatigue over time, so occasionally replacing them is good insurance as well.

I never spent any major time with the losi trucks Jerome but I do know many guys who run them and the ones who don't have ring and pinion problems all have the aluminum inserts

Thanks guys, Drake sent me an email, I am shimming them correctly, at least what he saw and he is going to try and help get the issue fixed. I guess notchy is the best, it was how I had the best results, and with this last set it wasn't the ring and pinion but brand new bearing failures
