I have been asking around on problems with my Cody King Orion engine. Until this weekend I have not been able to get very consistent run times as the engine just keeps flaming out. It is brand new maybe 1 gallon after break in through it. When on my Losi Buggy and Truggy it would keep dying and would never run a full tank without it quitting. When it dies it is like you stopped it on the flywheel, no sputters or anything just dies. Can die at idle, full throttle, when braking, or on coast after a jump. Engine spins freely like all Orion engines do. I have tried hot plugs, medium plugs and this weekend tried a OS ultra hot and it seemed to be the best.

Things I have checked......
New flywheel bushing
new clutch springs (mugen 3 shoe and Losi 4 shoe)
brake clean spray down when running (no change in rev or idle)
new exhaust gaskets and springs
3 mills Losi truggy and buggy (truggy maybe 2 gallons on it) and Mugen Mbx6r buggy
2013 pipe, losi rtr pipe, Integy pipe, 2058 kit pipe and Nova 9901 pipe (best result thus far)
Engine broken down and visual inspection looks new still

I was at the track earlier than anyone 2 weeks back and when I was running my Losi with the 2058 pipe (the one that came with the Cody King engine) it started to die and I heard a boiling sound coming from the pipe, can I clean or repair the pipe or is it a goner?

Sunday I was trying the nova pipe, I am at wits end with this engine, with the medium plug it wasn't cleaning out (with the medium plug was first time it ran an entire tank of fuel prior to Sunday) so I put the ultra hot OS plug in and it seemed to run good but still not a full tank of gas, finally one of the better engine tuners in Ho Chi Minh City adjusted and played with it on the Mugen for a bit and it seemed to run good like normal but it died once more. A bit later after my servo went out on my Losi I tried the Mugen again it ran great while I was running it, didn't die on the track but it did die in the pit lane with about 1/2 inch of fuel still in the tank after about a 10 second idle. I was able to run an entire tank on the medium earlier but the top end was suffering since it wasn't cleaning out on high rpm. Here is a video it is the green bodied Mugen

I also have a Invision 512R and it doesn't seem to have the power it should, what pipe would you suggest and would you also use the ultra hot plug or the medium plug?

Thanks in advance!
Jerome

check your hsn , make sure there isnt something stuck in it , you wont be able to see it as a particle smaller than you can see willl plug the orifice . clean the carb area very good with denatured alcohol , take hsn out , needle only leave fuel line hooked up , undo pressure line and blow through the fuel sytem until a good amount of fuel has passed through where the needle goes , lube orings on hsn , reinstall and set to whatever orions suggested reset is (idk) and try again

it sounds like your vehicle is starving for fuel a few times in the video

mugen fuel systems are not the best either , sad but true cause the car is great aside from lower front arms ;)

Will get that done tonight, thanks!

run time???

we are running the losi R21 nitrotec engine and losi RE12 low end pipe in our losi 8B 2.0 and the run time is about 9:30 - 9:45 at 200 degrees, using nitrotane 30%. we would relly like to make 10+ minutes if possible, is it possible with this combo?

Obviously there are variables, but I would say you can get there on your combo by leaning the engine...200 degrees is fairly rich. With a 'race tune' and visible smoke off the corner, you should be able to make the 10 minute mark. You can also install a slightly larger fuel filter, the kyosho 'soup can' filter increases the fuel capacity slightly.

Like scott said lean that bIZNitch out!

Novarossi recommends 165° above ambient on average ;)

Monty, when are you coming down here in "HOT AS HELL PHOENIX" to race flashlights indoor at One Hobbies?

Being in Dallas, Tx. that'll put us about 255 degrees, is that the upper limit on temp? It sounds kinda "fat" in the middle, not on top like the end of the straight but a few feet off the turns, should I lean the LSN or HSN? Sorry for all the ?? We usually run electric dirt oval cars this nitro off road is new to us. Also who makes the 2096ss pipe you mentioned in an earlier post?

TX_Punisher 07-11-2012 07:45 PM

2096SS is made by Nova.

Got my mill today. Thanks for the help, Monty.
